I am a URM texas resident. I have a 3.0 cGPA and a 3.3 sGPA with AAMC. I have a 3.5 cGPA and 3.46 sGPA with AACOMAS. If I continue doing as well as I am, I could have a 3.16 cGPA, 3.42 sGPA for AAMC or a 3.63 cGPA, 3.67 sGPA AACOMAS by next years cycle/end of my junior year. I have thinking about doing a diy Post Bac for MD/Texas med schools. If I do an extra 30 credits of "fluff" courses I can get my AAMC to a 3.30 cGPA and 3.45 sGPA. The thing that I am questioning is if it is a good decision to apply DO next years cycle and possibly get in at an OOS school for Fall 2018 or wait and possibly get in to a Texas MD or TCOM for fall 2020. Is it worth the extra tuition/room and board to get into medical school 2 years earlier? Especially since even with the extra credits my AAMC gpa is not very good.

I believe you have a decent chance of matriculating into Texas medical schools if you can raise your gpas a tad more and MCAT(?) Without an MCAT score all we can do is guess the outcome.

I'm just worried that if I take those extra 2 years and still get into an OOS DO school, I would have wasted my time and money. I understand about the MCAT and I plan on taking it sometime next spring. I plan on starting some light studying with the Kaplan/EK/TPR books next month and then hitting it hard about 4-6 months out.

@Goro do you have any words of advice?
