Im sorry for the very basic question, but im having a bit of trouble finding this information. Right now Im in the process of deciding between applying to Vet School and Med School-both are equally and strongly appealing to me.
I know that with Med School, you are STRONGLY advised to get your apps out in June of the year BEFORE you wish to begin. So essentially, you send out your apps about 15 months before you wish to begin. You can send out apps later, but you greatly reduce your chance of acceptance.

Is this the case with vet school as well? Do you send your apps out this early in order to have a good shot? My guess is different schools have different timelines (maybe not).
Just to clarify, Im not looking for DEADLINES for the various vet schools. What im looking for is the approximate time an applicant would send out his app in order to have the best chance of acceptance. thanks-SH

Vet school works a little differently than med school in terms of getting applications in. The deadline is October 1st of the fall before you want to matriculate, so if you're planning on going straight from college to vet school, you would have to complete the application by the fall of your senior year.

In general, vet schools do not have rolling admission the way med schools do, so submitting your application in June will not give you an advantage over someone who submits in September. The supplemental apps working differently too - they are usually due at the same time as VMCAS and you usually just fill one out if you're applying to that school, unlike med school where you are "invited" to fill out secondaries.

I think there are a couple exceptions - I know Ohio State has some form of rolling admissions and hopefully someone that applied there last year can chime in. But in general, you don't have an advantage submitting early. There are also a few schools that do not use VMCAS - like Tuskegee and TAMU - and I'm not sure on how their processes work.

Have you gotten some experience shadowing or working with a vet? Vet schools weight experience much more heavily than med schools and look for a lot more hours. Just a heads up in case you didn't know.

Generally they're due september/october ish, getting accepted around feb/march for classes beginning that fall.

Sending them in earlier doesn't increase your chances, you just need to make the deadline.

A few differences in the vetmed/human med app requiremnts include using the GRE vs the MCAT. Also the requirement of clinical or research experience working directly under a DVM (having one letter of rec from a DVM) - there are exceptions but usually applicants have at least a few hundered hours down, commonly over a thousand, and schools like Davis applicants average well over a few thousand hours of experience.
