Is it better to schedule externships earlier in september and october- or would it be ok to do them later in october and november?
I already have my schedule set to do them the later dates.
Someone said it may help because they might remember you better? I dont know what people usually do for these.
Thanks guys.

I did mine in October, and they remembered me. A friend of mine who matched at Emory a few years ago did an away there in November, which was great because it counted as his interview too. If you can do them later I think there is a small advantage, but sometimes people who have no Derm dept or a weak Derm dept want to go earlier in hopes of getting a letter, which is OK too.

For the place I Matched I did my first away in July. They remembered me when I interviewed in November. I then did my second away in August. My plan was to make sure I was able to get those well needed letters in to ERAS beforehand and to make sure in giving the writers ample time to make it happen.

I did my home rotation in August, an away rotation in mid-October to mid-November, and my final rotation in mid-November to mid-December. While I don't recommend doing away rotations this late, I did match at the program I rotated at in December. I think there are advantages to doing rotations later. One, you avoid all the craziness/competitiveness of other derm wannabe gunners out to get you. Two, I think you are definitely remembered on your interview day.
