I just got my first II (yay!) and the school has given me a range of dates to choose from, extending from mi-October, through mid-December. I want to interview as soon as possible, but my work schedule for October has already been made up, and it's difficult for me to get time off due to our chronic situation of being short staffed. Would it hurt my chances at all to choose an interview date in the first week of November? If I schedule in November, I can request the full week off (which I need in order to adjust my sleep cycle - I work night shift in a clinic), and can also use the trip as a visit with family (the med school I'm interviewing at is in my home town).

I could probably make October work, but it wouldn't be nearly as comfortable and I'd have to live with some grumbling from coworkers.

Congrats on the interview invitation. An early-November date for interview will be fine (only a three-week difference). But what will you do when they say, "We can't give you a week off, as we're too short-staffed."

Thanks! I don't think getting time off in November will be a problem, October is tough because one of the only other night shift people is on vacation for the month. In November it should be fairly easy.
