Hello all!

I am wondering when you started your shadowing? and what was your average amount of shadowing? Such as which doctors or types of practice and how many days you spent on average?

I was just curious, I have alot of research under my belt but have only seen a little converstaion about WHEN to start start shadowing and peoples expereinces with it. Thought I would pick your brains a bit on this issue. I called a loal DO's office today and they left a message today, so i have to call tomorrow. I am not finished yet with my BA, have 1.5 years to go, so I am wndering if it is too soon. I do have some time though now, as I am not working at the moment.

I would be interested in hearing some expereinces with this.

Youre on the right track and your timeframe looks good. Get all the shadowing in that you can. Maybe work towards a recommendation from the physician you shadow. 👍

Well I have the same amount of years as you and I can say its never too early to start shadowing. I started when I was a freshman so by the time I get my B.S. I will have four years down. I think the more time you got the more better especially at the same place because it shows commitment. Hope I helped you.

Hello! I am a 2nd year grad student right now. I started shadowing during my junior year of undergrad (so I have been shadowing for almost 3 years now), you are on the right track!! Check out my MDapps profile I have a list going there. I tried to see as many different fields as I could in various settings, it really opens your eyes to preferences. There is no magic number for hours or years, but the more the merrier😳 If you find a specific area you feel strongly about, spend as much time as you can there- it'll make for great discussion should it come up in an interview or it may help you in writing your PS! 😎 Any questions PM me!
