"When to take it if i did well on Step1"

i.e., I will probably be at the peak of my Step2 related knowledge at the end of 3rd year, but I don't want to risk dropping from my Step1 score and having that on my application. I'm sure many of you have had a similar situation.

So should i just wait until later in the year to take it and undoubtedly get a lower score than I would have otherwise?

I think of step II like a operation for a patient. There is very little benefit there's a lot to lose, so that's a procedure I wouldn't recommend.

Are you sure not having it on your application is even an option? Some programs require Step 2 scores, so you may want to take it early and just plan on doing well.

Many very competitive programs require a step 2 score. I would look into the schools you want to apply to before waiting to take step 2. Not to mention, now a lot of schools are starting to require people to take step 2 before Dec of their 4th year. Traditionally, step 2ck is easier that step 1. I would suck it up and take the exam early (I did). Study hard (but you won't have to study as hard as you did for step 1), and blow it out of the water. Have confidence in yourself that your step 1 score was not a fluke, that you can do it and your application will be that much stronger... you'll really be able to write your ticket to the residency program of your choosing.
