When to take Kaplan - and when to begin studying?

Hey guys,

Im gonna start getting into DAT mode this semester. Kaplan, however, doesnt offer a course until late October in my area. I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to begin studying on my own BEFORE the course? Would it be more preferable to take the course FIRST - and then do my own studying during and after the course?...

The more studying you get in the better. I think starting to study now before the class will only help you. I studied for a couple of months off and on before taking the class, so when I took the class it was more like I was honing in on exactly what I needed to know. Kaplan helped fill in the holes that I didn't learn on my own and build on what I had studied before taking the class. Also, if for some reason you wanted to start the class earlier you can take the online version. I did the online class and thought it was great, its all exactly the same content and you do the classes on your own time which was helpful for me as I had a busy schedule. If you really need an instructor that you can ask questions to though, you will want the regular course.

Also, if you haven't already signed up, I just looked and if you sign up online by the end of september its $100 off for any kaplan DAT class.

I paid for my Kaplan course early and they went ahead and gave me my books. I don't know if the Kaplan course you plan on taking will do that, but it's worth a shot. I had about 6 weeks to study on my own with the books before the class started.

Studying on your own can't hurt....I'm also from south florida. Do you go to school here?

Im gonna sign up for Kaplan now so hopefully i can get the materials early....
