When to take MCAT

April. The material should be fresh in your mind, and if you take orgo, physics, or bio during second semester of that year, you should be studying for the test while studying for the class at the same time.

Help me understand something when you say it will delay your application. If you take it the summer before your junior year and do not intend to apply until June will this still put you behind or will you be ahead since you will not have to worry about it during the school year and you can concentrate on your application?

I took the Kaplin this summer too.

Thanks

if you have taken all of the classes, take it the summer of your sophmore year.

Whenever you take it make sure you leave yourself of taking it again just in case you don't do well. It all depends on when you want to apply.

Summer before junior year is optimal.

Key word here is optimal. One of the advisors at my school recommends taking it in August -- his perspective was that either your classes suffer or your MCAT score suffers. If you take it in August you can spend the entire summer studying.

Personally, I'm going to graduate in May, and spend a year working and studying and then take it the following April. The only bad thing about taking it in August is that your application will be reviewed later than applicants who took it in April.

i think the absolute optimal time to take the test (assuming you've already taken all the classes that will help you out) is to take it the august of the year BEFORE you start to apply. for example, i took a year off after college, meaning that i started to apply the june after my senior year. i took the mcats in august before my senior year. that way, i had all summer to study and take kaplan, not worrying about it affecting my grade, and i had the opportunity to take it again in april if needed without delaying my application. in order to get it done, though, you need to plan pretty far ahead, because if you want to go straight into med school, that means taking the mcat the summer between your sophomore and junior years, and a lot of people aren't ready by then.

I'm planning on taking it in April. Can't really say I'm to excited about taking it either, more like utterly terrified.

Im taking it in august, then im going to apply in june... unless i kick as$.

By saying "summer", they mean August.

To all others, April (end of your junior year) is optimal. If you won't study while taking classes, you won't study during the summer either. Just take a lighter load and plan an hour per day to study.

Dude, hurry up and take it this august. All the cool people I know are taking it now.
