I'm going to be a rising 3rd year dental student soon, I was wondering when I should take the ADAT? Is it possible to take the ADAT in my 2nd year summer? I have the NBDE Part 1 scheduled for August 25th. I'm def. not going for a specialty, and my GPA is around 3.0 (had a rough 1st year, but got almost straight A's in D2) I'm curious as to the timing of when to take it, and the significance of the exam, because I want to figure out a way to stand out in future GPRs. Please let me know when is the optimal time to take it. I'm in the class of 2019.

Thanks,

Hi there, I realize this is 4 months late... but I wouldn't take ADAT until you are ready for NBDE Part II as ADAT has material on it from clinical dentistry (part II material), "biological sciences" (basically part I material) and stats. I definitely would not think you are ready to take ADAT until Summer of your 3rd year... but I guess that depends on your dental school and how prepared for 'clinical sciences' you are. I would save yourself the stress of cramming for ADAT and possibly not be prepared... take around the time of part II (or summer after 3rd yr).
