Hi

I'm an American at a Canadian medical school and I was considering taking step II immediately before graduation (when I take the canadian boards) so I don't have to study twice. If I am planning residency back in the states do you think there is any harm to that approach? I also did great on step one so I'm in no rush to try my luck w/ step II.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think it pretty much depends on the residency programs (not many require you to take Step II before you submit rank lists). You should go to the programs you are really interested in and find out what they want.

Also, it could depend on your schol requirements. Our school requires that the results be in by Dec 31 of MS-IV for graduation requirements.

Also think about Step II CS as well. Most (or all) residencies require you to have passed it before they will let you start.

Good luck.
