Just trying to plan ahead for the MCAT and wondered if this information is already available or when it will be.

Another related question- how far in advance does one register for MCAT?

Congrats to those getting early acceptances!!!🙂

AAMC verifies your application after you submit it to at least one medical school. The main thing is to make sure your transcripts are in ASAP, LORs aren't verified. It takes anywhere from 1 week to 6 weeks to get your application verified. Your application won't be complete without an MCAT, but that takes 24-48 hours to fix after MCAT scores are posted. Medical schools will get your application as soon as it's verified/complete and send you secondaries as appropriate. Some schools want that easy money while some will screen your app on MCAT/GPA.

You can register for MCATs several months in advance, that's not too big a deal. Depending on where you live, you might be corralled into a specific day or time, but it shouldn't be that much of a problem if you register early. It takes about a month for your scores to come in after you take the MCAT. For example, I took the MCAT on August 12th and my scores came out on Sept 13th.

Thanks, notbobtrustme, but assuming everything is in- transcripts, LOR's, plus or minus MCAT, do you know the date that AAMC will send a verified 2013 application to medical schools? This past application season it was June 17th.

I assume you register for the MCAT several months in advance, but does that usually mean 6 months or 2 months? TIA.

I don't think they publish that information this far in advance, but you can safely assume it'll be around the same time next year.

From my n=1 experience, I signed up for an April MCAT in January with no issues at my preferred location.

Thanks, saggy, I was thinking mid May, so it would follow that January or so would be well within time to get my preferred location.

I wonder when the application release date will be available. This year it was a bit earlier than last, and I don't know if that will continue to be the trend or if it will just fall around the 17th-24th sometime.

Good question, but I'm not sure. I believe the reason that the date started creeping closer to early June is because everything is digital so there's no need to wait on snail mail (for the most part). Since there aren't any significant changes to the application system over the horizon I don't anticipate the date changing much.

As far as choosing an MCAT date, it isn't critical that you have everything submitted on June 1st. Yes, it is comforting to have it out of the way but it a couple of weeks probably won't make a difference in the long run. It's reasonable to give yourself a couple of weeks to prepare after you've completed your final exams. You shouldn't short-change yourself (possibly at the expense of your MCAT score) just to save a week or two.

About the MCAT- They opened up registration for 2012 already since Oct 12th if you plan on taking it somewhere in Jan-May. So in my opinion, if you know when you were planning on taking it, register sooner than later, just to make sure you can take it at the time and location you prefer.

I already registered to take mcat on April 5th! Having an exact date already is becoming enough motivation to start preparing myself, so I advise you register in advance as well. Goodluck!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, Saggy. I think I'll plan on mid to late May. There's a date on the 19th and one on the 24th of May.

Misseskwee, that's why I was asking. I think I will wait till January to sign up, when I'll have a better idea when I should be ready (final exam schedule, etc). I know what you mean. Once you make a date, it becomes very real to you!😱

Be sure to check your school's calendar because my school already has a schedule for the next semester, including final exams and everything =) 👍
