Is taking the MCAT at the end of June a bad idea if I want to have all my apps in by August?

I would say, more & more schools are on rolling admission. Applications are first come first serve. That said; late April or early May is a "recommended" last train out of the station. It does not mean drop dead date. From the point past late May, in my opinion, every test taken later will put yourself in more & more disadvantages. I heard that many school don't look at the applications till "all together in a bunch" earliest say late July or early August. Well, for late June, you will get your score back in late July. So, you probably OK.

A lot of folks take either the July or the August to update their previous MCAT scores (they mentioned that in their application form),

The point is, unless you don't have the choice, especially if that is your 1st attempt to this MCAT beast, it is not wise to put yourself in this situation. 🙄

Does this mean that I can submit my application with my first score (28) and tell them that iam retaking lets say in end of may or beginning of june without affecting my chances?

Your score will come out late June or early July. A lot of school don't even look at the application till either middle/late July or later. Technically speaking, it should not affect you at all.

That said. I like to offer my 2 cents comments as following.

There is NO one size fits all.

There are schools only cares about your latest score.
There are schools average out your score(s).
There are schools don't like applicants having more that ONE MCAT scores.

The point is you just don't know what they think & anything outside people tell you is just plain speculation.

The reality is you "prefer" to get the MCAT done and well the 1st time & turn in the score with your primary application ASAP once the gate opens June 1.

Yes, I believe in the form you can inform the admission office you will update your MCAT score SOON.

That "SOON" has a limit depending on when that "particular" school start looking at the primary application. If that school already initiate the process before your update score coming in, that put you in a disadvantage; because you may be in a "wait or on hold" pile of files.

Well, you get the idea.

P.S. What I just said may sound contradict my previous thread in terms of timing of turning in MCAT scores.
To summarize it: The sooner the better. There are cases, based on individual sitution, you can't. You just have to be aware of the fact that the later it is, you put yourself in the box.
