a few speedbumps on the mstp essay (which probably doesn't matter all that much in reality)

I just finished the last of my 19 applications on Saturday. No rejections yet and four interviews. That leaves fifteen schools that I have yet to hear from post-secondary.

Hi there,

I have applied to only four MD/PhD programs in the US and two up here in Canada. I'm in the deep throes of completing the essay--it's a doozy, that one.

Cheers, and good luck to you,
Kirsteen

Everyone is referring to it as "the essay." What's up with that? I found that almost every school wanted a different type of essay. Ended up writing close to fifteen original MD/PhD essays. Do you mean to tell me that everyone else just wrote one essay for all of their applications?

Nope...I definitely had to modify my essay(s) for each application. I just finished my secondaries last week; my recommendations were sent out early last week too. No interviews on my end, but plenty of anxiety...🙁

Diddo on the whole 'editing' of essays. I got really good, though, at managing to fit alot of information into a seemingly small word limit. I think I ended up actually writing about 4 or 5 essays or minis and could use them on most all of the applications. I keep telling myself I need to apply to Duke, but that just seems like too much writing. Anyways, all my secondaries have been in for about 1 1/2 months. I'm starting to hear back from schools, too. The exceptions are UCSF and the University of Washington, neither of which I've heard from. And thus the waiting goes on...

I sent out my letter of rec two weeks ago, and schools are starting to send word that my application is complete. I don't expect to hear about interviews for awhile, and I'm enjoying my time off. As for the essays, all I can say is that copy and pasting are a blessing 😀

I also have a nagging urge to apply to additional schools. I keep thinking, "Wait, what if 19 isn't enough?"
