I've been trying to find pant suits for my upcoming interviews, but I've been having a hard time trying to find a decent one that fits (most are too large, especially in the shoulder area). I've looked at department stores, but the smallest that most stores carry is a size for 4. Where would I find a small suit? Are there places that custom make suits for ladies?

Petite Sophisticate. It is the petite version of Casual Corner. Good quality. Look to spend less than 100 on your suit. 😀

Have you tried the petite section of a department store? The clothes are proportioned for tiny people. Instead of just making the waist smaller, the legs are shorter, arms are shorter, etc. I know JC Penney has a section. Most women's clothing stores that specialize in business attire should have something as well.

Im not sure how much money you want to spend on your suit but Banana Republic and Ann Taylor have super cute suits and have petite sections now. And they are all on sale right now. You should also go to Filene's Basement ( if you have one from wherever you are). THey have brand name suits (like CK, Kenneth Cole, Eileen Fisher, etc...) for cheap. What can I say, im a shop-a-holic bargain hunter!

I get my suits at Banana Republic, mainly because I work there. Nevertheless, it's really great quality and they have a petite section online.

NORDSTROM RACK! I love that place. Although you have to dig through a bunch of other clothing, it's well worth it. I got a petite pant suit there (size 2). I saw a bunch of other petite pant suits as well there. The price there is decent since it's an outlet/bargain type store.

Men's Wearhouse. Wait a minute...that might not work for you.

If there is a Macy's nearby, definitely check it out! They also have namebrand suits (mine was Kenneth Cole and I got it for under $100 😱 )

Good luck!!!!!

For interview would you guys suggest that we wear suit or can we wear a shirt and white dress shirt? I was planning on wearing a white dress shirt and a black skirt...suit is so expensive and I dont want to over dress. Which is better for a girl...below the kneee shirt or pant? THanks

Express -- they have a pant line called "Editor" which come in varying lengths (short, regular and tall), along with a matching jacket. Plus they have nice button-up shirts and belts, too.

Personally, I'm just throwing something together from my wardrobe, not a fitted suit or anything. I've got an old black blazer that I found on a clearance rack for $8, a knee-length black skirt from K-mart which was something like $5, a cheap pair of black pants... you get the point.

Does anyone think it's a poor decision to not look... I dunno, expensive? I mean, I'll look nice, but not Express or suit that was all bought from one store nice.

Of course, I'll probably get in to school on the "poor kid raised in a bad neighborhood, comes from a zero-income family, divorced parents, first in the family to go to college, has to put herself through on her own with lots of loans, supports herself working a $5.55/hr job because it's the only thing that'll work with her school schedule BUT has overcome everything while maintaining a high GPA and staying out of trouble" appeal... maybe looking like a poor kid trying to clean up will be to my benefit.

I would recommend looking in a store that gets its clothes from other stores (like Marshall's or Gabriel Brothers or Ross Dress for Less or anything along those lines, whatever you have in your area.) I've actually found that they tend to have a lot of clothes that are on the smaller end of things simply because there are way less size 4s than size 10s (at least that's how it is here in West Virginia, third fattest state in the nation.) You can find the stuff from places like Express if you're willing to make a couple trips over a few weeks, except it's tons cheaper.

I got my suit from petite sophisticate/casual corner. They had "cheaper" suits, but not that cheap! Of course, I went for a wool one, so it would work well for all "time frames" of interviewing and then I had to get the jacket altered (major $). Not an inexpensive day! But, it worked, so hey...
