Hi All,
I was just wondering where all of you that have taken the MCAT, or are still preparing for it, study. I have 2 roomates currently who are all and all unbearably loud and I therefore cannot study at home. I'm planning on prepping in the summer and know that my local library closes at about 9PM everyday and therefore don't really know where to go (I study mostly at night). I considered getting a room by myself but don't want to deal with the issue of coming up with the money, and even that does not guarantee a quiet neighborhood (in the sumemr young kids are all home in my area). All/any suggestions would be appreciated!

The library and my research lab were the main places I studied. You need to find a good place to take practice tests most importantly. Studying is just reading the books and notes repeatedly. Also, I suggest you invest in a good set of ear plugs. They help.

in the mornings i studied in my bedroom. In the afternoons i went to eh kaplan test center. Did this pretty much everyday for the whole summer and took sundays off. Kaplan's test center was closed in the morning so that is why i used my room. It worked for me as i got accepted👍 😀 👍

When the weather isn't conducive, the public library is where I go (our school library sucks)...

When the weather IS... I go to the picnic, park, and track area at one of our hospitals. The layout is perfect, and quiet, and there's an added thrill and rememberance of why i'm putting myself through this everytime I hear an ambulance or see a doctor walk to his/her vehicle.

I'm a nerd, but whatever works..

I study in my room and as Brettbachelor said, earplugs are a cheap and amazing way to help maintain focus.

Ya, study in the room with ear plugs and close the door! And plaster a BIG 4-0 in front of your desk. each time there is a noise. look at the big 4-0 and study harder!

On the top floor of a dungeon-like, 11-story dormitory with no air conditioning during the hottest summer on record. But hey, I had a good roommate and it was (more or less) a quite place to study.

But would I do it again?

Of course...

Everyone has different study methods. I basically set up shop in a quiet corner of our school library for 3 months last year. I would spread out all my EK and Kaplan stuff on a big table and just work through them (2-3 hours M-F, 4-6 hours on Sa, Sundays off). I also had an iPod classical music playlist that I'd put on anytime anytime I felt myself losing focus.

Bottom line, find a quiet place to study; when you're studying, REALLY study -no chatting with friends you see; FOCUS when you study; and don't get burned out - If you get to the point where you don't want to be there, don't be afraid to take a couple of days off.

This system worked for me (I've gotten into two schools so far and am waiting to hear back from a few more).

...GOOD LUCK! :luck:

I had three night labs next semester, so I studied in my room after those until I went to bed. It was nice to have that in my schedule.
