You say you want to do clinical oncology research. It's mostly MDs that do clinical research, while MD/PhDs do basic science research. Just something I wanted to point out. I think an MD alone would be fine for what you want to do. Hopefully your wife is very supportive of your goals.
How do you know you want to do clinical research if you don't have any research experience? Find a lab to work in first, that's my advice on where to go from here.
