Hello!

This summer I will graduate (hopefully) with 3.2 gpa. But, I haven't applied for the ADDSAS or reviewed the DAT. I also need to retake my ORGO I lecture because I got a D last year. These translates into taking ORGO II lect/lab in the spring of 2007. Organic chemistry is the only series that I need to retake/complete to fullfil the minimum requirements (for most D schools..). I also have zero dental experience. I am hoping to start D school in 2007.

Here are my plans:
(1.) Take the DAT as many times as I can. I am planning to take the DAT before or during the Fall 2006 semester (while I take ORGO I lecture) once. I'm going to purchase the Kaplan and review it during summer while taking 9 credits.

(2.) Volunteer 40 hours at a dental clinic during and after summer 2006.

(3.) Complete Orgo I (fall 2006), Orgo II lect/lab & human physiology (spring 2007).

I will be working fulltime during Fall 2006 to summer 2007 while taking some classes during the day. Please share your thoughts - i'm realy ignorant about this (dental school) whole process. How can I maximize my potential? WHat should I do now or very soon? What are the most critical part of the application process( raising my gpa, retaking classes etc.) ?

Just wait until the 2008 cycle, it seems as if your not as prepared to dive into the pressures of dental school just yet. Get your plan together and then see what happens...it never hurts to have 2 majors 🙂

Thanks!
I know its very late now....But I have a family + worked 25 hours a week + full time student. I'm going to try if this new challenge will work. OBTAINING ANOTHER BACHELOR'S DEGREE IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME.

So you're taking 9 credits during the summer while studying for the DAT? You're also taking the test without having completed orgo 1 & 2? If you can teach yourself orgo than its possible.

Take the DAT as many times as you can.... what does that mean???

Well, I understand that I can take the DAT more than once per year...??????
When do MOST schools stop accepting applications?

Thanks.

COLT:

I am in the process of dropping one class (of the three...). That will leave me with a relatively "easy" class and a seminar class that is very easy. Where I work, I usually sit and just read my class notes - 75% of the time.
I've taken ORGO I lect/lab last year. My lect was a D and C in the lab portion. I was seriously taking too many credits that time. I felt that I can handle this course better this fall 2006.

So you probably have some knowlege of orgo 1, but you still wouldn't have taken orgo 2 for the DAT. Since you have a lot of time, you could study extra for that part.
