I was thinking about the people at the Barnes and Noble bookstore today and Starbucks. All the time seats are filled. Do you guys like the library, coffee shops, in bed at your house? Where do you study it up?

LOL. my favorite place is outside. We even have heavy duty extensiorn cords around the house so I can work off my laptop outside. Otherwise, there are tons of places in our house. Occasionally the Panera's nearby. Libraries aren't really my place (at least not now) when I was in college too many people to run into in the library. While in undergrad, I generally studied in the science and math center, which had lots of nooks to hide out in.

Oh, if I really wanted to feel inspired by history, I would sit in the room on campus just inside of where the a Lincoln-Douglas debate occured.

I can never ever concentrate at home studying, but I always try. Haha I will drive a half hr to a library and find a quiet area that i can spread out. If I try to study in my bed, I get sleepy no matter what time of day it is. I also have to be sitting up like at a desk with a comfy chair.

I'm a big fan of the library since I feel really productive and don't have as many distractions as I normally would at home. But, I always try and find one of the desks where there aren't many people so I don't end up talking to friends.

My second favorite spot is my desk...but, I get distracted very easily. I get hungry, tired, answer the phone, do laundry, and my very needy cat cries and cries and then sits on top of whatever I'm doing

Not a big fan of studying in places like Panera...I end up reading the newspaper or people watching.

OMG! That sounds exactly like my place. It's amazing how pets manage to choose the exact paper/notebook/textbook you need to read and spread across it even if there are 10 papers on the floor!

If I really need to concentrate I have to run off to the library or lock myself in a quiet room away from the critters, husband, refrigerator, tv and any and all video games.

speaking of laundry...I use to study at the offcampus laundromat in the middle of the night. It was pretty great...lots of room to spread out, folding gave me breaks, and almost never anyone there.

Actually my favorite place to study is sitting propped up in a tree. Failing that, outside in general. Failing that, the highest story in the library, preferably near a window (though those seats are usually taken).

I get distracted embarassingly easily, so I don't get anything done unless I'm in a silent area with no windows. I go to the same library and sit in the same study booth whenever I need to study even though it's not the closest library to my apartment.

There are soooo many lib in your town! I wish I was close to a lib that was open long enough at night. Mine always closes at 9.

Me too, almost exactly. There's a really quiet table in the corner of the science building at school where I spend so much time the professors started joking about getting me an office and/or pitching a tent.

Yeah, it's still only a 5 minute walk to my library. I guess I shouldn't take the plethora of libraries on campus (there are 42 or some crazy amount) for granted.

P.S. I love your avatar. 🙂

Haha your avatar is crazy awesome too. I love cheetahs. Wildcats are amazing. Maybe or I hope to work with them someday. 😀 I am still jealous of your 42 lib. 5 mins? longgg walk lol

If I were to walk to the one and only on-campus library open to studying, it would take me... rough estimate... 3 hours? 4 perhaps? Driving is about 8 minutes. Good luck with parking. Might end up walking those 5 minutes, anyway!

For these reasons... I would like to be able to study at home. Or, more efficiently than I do now. There is a remodel plan in place for the room I'm sitting in now, mostly just involving some paint, fixtures, corkboard, sprucing up, and a MUCH larger desk. Here's hoping I have the chance to implement said plan... here... in a year or so... heh.

Throughout undergrad, I've never been a library person. I've probably gone to the library... twice... to study. I prefer being at home in my own room! Maybe I work better with distractions!

PS really good song in your signature, twelvetigers.

The library. I have four roomates. Two of them are incredibly loud, and it seems that whenever I get my comfy clothes on and crawl under my blanket to study, one or both of them decide to start being excessively loud and stupid. Both of them are excessively loud when they walk... one of them likes to have a ton of people over and leaves her door open while they socialize and be stupid, and the other likes to drink at random times or run around the apartment with her excessively loud friends. And if they're both not home, I have to deal with the Egyptians who live below me... they blare their music at odd times during the day and make my floor vibrate. They also keep me awake when I want to go to bed or wake me up pretty early. My other two roomies are quiet, but they're also too scared to say anything so I have to live with it. I can't concentrate at all in the apartment. A couple of weeks ago, I got so stressed out after being kept up for a week straight and got screamed at when I asked if I could take a nap... and ended up packing up my stuff and calling a friend of mine to come get me.

Next year, I won't be living on campus. I refuse to. It's 3:50 am... I can't sleep because of a sinus cold... and my downstairs neighbors have their music on loud enough so that I can hear the bass through the floors.

I'm weird, I do my best studying late at night or *very* early in the morning. So the local library is out. There is a Starbucks near my house that opens at 4:30am, and there are a couple of really big tables. They close at midnight. I study there all the time. If I find myself needing to study when Starbucks is not open, there are several 24-hour diners around, but they are usually too noisy. I absolutely cannot study at home. With 4 cats, a husband, and always something needing done, it's impossible!!

For vet school I would love a 24-hour library or other nice and quiet place to study.

I only really study at home in my room. Yeah, my computer can sometimes be distracting, but when I'm learning things for an exam, I need to talk myself through material outloud. If I do that in a public place, I look like I've got a bad case of the crazies. 😀

I almost always study at home. With the TV on. And talking to people online. For whatever reason, I am way more productive with background noise and/or activities. I usually study in my room, but now I'm living by myself, so I study in the living room. If I go to the library, I tend to get much less done. Too many variables. At least at home I can control my distractions.

The other reason that I like studying at home is because I've found that the best method of learning is teaching. Let's just say that my dog is a master organic chemist.

I have a cat who could do amino acid synthesis problems in her sleep!

But seriously, yah, teaching really is the best way to go about it. 'See it, do it, teach it'. That's why I love study groups. That and I can put individual quirks to people and the things they're good with (like I'll recall that a certain person is good with a certain problem and oh yah, they were doing this while explaining that. I remember now.)

I agree completely! Although I don't think I ever taught anything to my puppy -- but I thought about it. I probably would have tried if she had been able to not fall asleep on me.

I like to study at home..in my room with a box fan on so random noises are out...we live in the middle of no mans land so you hear a lot of "wildlife" noises..We have an indoor hottub and I like to study in there...I will flip the cover half way over and it makes a nice place to spread out...you just have to be careful not to put your hand in the water and then touch your books! BUUUT after I study like a week in advance for a test, a group of us ALWAYS meets up the night before the test at my moms office in town. So I learn best by teaching myself and then teaching others!

 You get my vote for the most creative/relaxing place to study!!

After four years in undergrad, I found the perfect spot for me to study. I had card access to the science building and a lab and I would go there around 8:00 when most everybody was gone. I could study for hours there and not get too off task. There was enough visual stimualtion in the lab and on the halls to provide nice study breaks.

I cannot stand libraries!! They are so boring and erie to me. I have never been able to study in a library. It may be because I used to work in the medical school library at my school and this was by far the most monotonous job I have ever had. My arm would fall asleep scanning articles into the computer.😴

Benefit of being a graduate student: MY OWN DESK/CUBICLE in our lab's grad student office and it's even a decent sized one and I'm sort of tucked into a corner so if I put on noise-canceling headphones and some music I am in my own little world. 😍

I am the exact way. If I try to study in bed I always fall asleep. I like to get a study room at the library and spread my books and notes out and study that way!
