where have the new grads started working?

I was just wondering where most new grads from 2013 started working at? Are mostly in big cities? I took a job at a community hospital, and I am the youngest in the group and possibly the youngest doc at the hospital. Although I really enjoy working here, I'm thinking of moving to a big city hoping to join a group with a good number of docs my age (late 20s early 30s). Any leads? Thanks.

Medium city? 200-500k

Medium-large metro area 500k-1.5 million?

Large metro area 1.5 million-3 million

Super large metro area 3 million and up? (There are only about 15 areas in country with this type of population.

Going to be extremely hard to find what u are looking for. Working with people your own age plus a larger city. New grads or recent grads just can't come in and take over a contract. Management companies will beat you to the punch if local groups who are looking to expand haven't done so already.

New grads I know went to Indy Suburbs Jacksonville Baltimore. But they all joined established groups.

The market is very tight as you probably know already.

Groups are selling out left and right. Wouldn't recommend anything longer than a 2 year track. Buyer beware is all I can say in this market.

no such thing as a job you want to join with a bunch of new grads. That's automatically a bad job. You want a good job. One where people want to stay and don't want to leave which means they aren't hiring a bunch of new grads.

While socially you want to have a several others in your age bracket and professional experience level, that would be a terrible group to be a part of.

I'm not looking to join a group of youngins, but at least a group with a good distribution of budding and full of wisdom anesthesiologists.

In the good ole days (1999-2008). Sometimes entire groups walked from hospital contracts because of subsidies issues. A young doc could come in and bring his buds and start something new.

But those opportunity are few and far in between now. Local groups in various countries now try to eat up those opportunity and some have expanded and become AMCs themselves. Or national AMCs come in take those contracts.

I'd say it's worse than "few and far in between". It's non-existent.

The best jobs you will find have few young docs because nobody leaves and they are rarely hiring anybody. I'm happy with my job that has had a total of 2 docs leave in the last 15 years and hires about 1 doc every 2 years.

Seems to me as though you have had perpetual student syndrome and are finding being kicked out into the adult world a bit of a shock.

The easy answer is for you to go into academics. The perhaps harder answer is to stay where you are and develop your social life outside of the work environment.

I wouldn't be so hard on the O.P. He is just looking for a group with a few folks who are at the same stage of life who are also relatively new to the practice who he can identify with. Being the lone new guy when everyone else is a decade older and been there forever can be challenging to find your way and form relationships.

Look at the large 200+ single specialty super groups. Ours in socal hires around 5-10/year on average to keep up with retirements and relocations so there a lots of young partners to socialize with.

It is a solid job but you could do better working for ACI, ACI/OB or the cardiac group. That involves driving though.

That means Vegas anesthesia docs still run around the day with their surgeons? Like the Dallas Tx groups?
