i feel like i'm having a quarter life crisis. i believe i'm passionate about medicine and healthcare and do extracurriculars that demonstrate this. i dont even know what else i want to do with my life if not going into this field. but my grades are going downhill and it's making me distressed. i got B/B+ in biology, got away with a B+ in chemistry 1 but chem 2 is going horribly and i keep getting D's on the exams. im a non science major and am doing below average on my bio elective and i'll probably get a C even though i am studying as much as i can for exams. i dont even want to think about how i'll do in orgo or physics which i have yet to take. do i even have a chance of success if i am struggling so much in my science classes now?

There's always a chance. You've come too far to quit now.

Do you feel like you are capable of doing better in your classes? Perhaps a little later in your career?

Plenty of people have overcome lousy grades. Probably more people have gotten to where you are and thrown in the towel. Some have spent years trying to overcome lousy grades and still not made it.

No one can say what's going to happen to you. Start by being honest with yourself. Could you do better if you changed your study habits and priorities? If you could, are you actually willing to make those changes?

Have you sought tutoring, gone to office hours, joined study-groups, used online resources to supplement course material, et cetera? How's your time-management? Do you have any learning disabilities? Are you studying effectively for a given course? (certain courses benefit from specific study methods)

This doesn't have to be the end of your story. You need to make sure that you're exhausting all options available to you before you let your circumstances kill your moral. Analyze your schedule(s) and make improvements. Take control of your life in all areas!

Double the amount of time you spend studying on the subjects that are giving you a hard time.

Go to all office hours/review sessions. Typically the reason people are getting lower grades isn't due to some sore of innate ability, its a direct reflection of how efficiently, and how much they study.

I don't know what you're lifestyle is like, but it sounds like you need to make some decisions. Do you really want this? How bad do you want it? So long as you have an appropriate IQ, an "A" is attainable in every course. You just have to want it bad enough.

Sit down and do a life assessment. How much do you drink? How much time do you spend in your social life? How much time do you spend studying? Do you know your professors? Do you know your TAs? Have you utilized study groups? Are you working through all of the problem sets? Doing all of the reading? Reviewing all of the powerpoints multiple times? Recording difficult lectures and then listening to them later? How are you studying? Sometimes you have to switch up your studying habits depending on the classes you take. For example, flash cards may work great in histology, but be a really horrible strategy for O Chem. You need to find what works for you. Make a plan and then work the plan. That's all I can say, man. You just got to want it. And if you don't make the grades because you're somewhat apathetic, maybe this isn't what you are really set on- and that's okay. There are many, many, many, many successful and perfectly self-fulfilled people in life who are not physicians.

^ that article: Inspirational, yes. This Bruce dude was forcing OTHER person to stretch his limit. BS. Everybody is different. Would he be responsible if the man actually dropped dead?

Yes. Being unaware of such a popular culture figure means that something is wrong with you and/or your upbringing. 😀

I'm going to have to agree with this one - Bruce Lee was a god among men.

You're clearly not studying enough. Try harder perhaps.

Ok, hold on a minute. This guy felt like he was going to "die" after only running 5 miles? What a pansy!
... not if he's your grandpa's age.
Endurance has to be built over time, not over one night. Grave mistake otherwise 🙄

If it is something your REALLY want to do, then you won't give up. You only lose when you give up.

Bruce Lee was the Man!

I think the problem is you don't have a good grasp of the material.
Get help whenever you feel like you're struggling! Seek out TAs, professors, tutors. Study with other people if you'd like, to keep you on task. Don't get behind! Remember, those who get As are those who put in the extra effort.

Always try your best and never give up. I often feel the same way when I get bad grades, thinking if I will ever be able to make it. Your grades will get better. I struggled in physics in the beginning and starting to get a hang of it now.

eh i feel for ya man. may be ur not studying right way.

it took me all three years of college to learn how to do well and now i think its time for me to share them with ya🙂.

1: pick easy classes, or easier version of the same class. like if your school AMS version of calc 3 is harder than the MAT version of it, take AMS, adcoms wouldnt rly know the difference i think.

2: utalize office hours. use it to get ur HW done, and ask any questions about anything u dont understand fully. if you cant explain a concept u learned in class to ur grandmother, then u dont understand it fully lol.

3: i find it easier to understand some concept if i can see examples of it. but thats prob just me.

4: some professors are hm, out of my respect for our overpriced education system i shall say that they are bad. so use sites like ratemyprofessors.com.

This is all i have to contribute that i think any one can appreciate easily.
