My fav place to study is a bookstore's cafe (B*****). I can stay there for hours (at least 3+ / visit), and since I go there sooo often (almost everyday) from last year, I know everyone who works there and they seem to also know me (they might be bored to see me too often 😳 ).

I've bought so many cups of coffee (i can't even count how many drink cards that I have that gave me 1 free drink after buying 10), and still feel like going there everytime to study b/c i can't study in my apt--TV, bed, and laptop seem to be the greatest distractions. Besides, I like the cozy and casual environment + relaxing music that they play while studying.

ANyone here goes to certain bookstore to study? And where do you study the most?

I like Panera Bread... free wi-fi access is a plus.

I liked to go to the park. I'd spread a blanket out and have no noise except for birds. I'm more of a nature person.

Private rooms in the library....get a big discussion group together and you’re all set!

Ya know, this is an interesting thread. I have a room downstairs (where I am now) with a computer (msn/aim) that I've discovered isn't a great place to study, i'm constantly getting up to either change a song on wimamp or to check out a website for a min, and it's ineffective. It usually only works when I have a big deadline and I focus; however,

I find in my room (there is a TV there), if I turn off the TV and go up with my iPod it's easier to change my music and there's no distraction, just light my ipod and books. It's pretty good.

The library can be good or bad, I generally don't go there. I find in my school you always run into people you know at the library and that's fine, but if you need to study it's a problem. Study rooms can be decent for working on an assignment or a project, but with more than 2-3 they get out of control fast, i.e a lot of talking, random topics, distractions etc.

Cafes I think are a great environment. Sure, there's background noise but with headphones it isn't that bad. There's no TV, Computer or huge chance of running into half your class. Consistent supply of nice coffee is a huge plus, and a lot of people are generally solitary and there's not huge group gatherings.

However, I will say this about group studies: If you have the right combination of people (similar studying style, personality) and the right timing (AFTER you've learned the material, go there to review it with others, you pick up on stuff you've missed) it can be a really great, productive event. The keys are the people, and going after you've studied the material sufficiently. These are rare events when you have the correct combination of everything, as I've only had this 2-3 times this year.

All in all that's my review of study locations, that's pretty much the places i've tried. Now, off to put my highlighter where my mouth is. Upstairs 😉.

Since my husband and I are both going back to school we just dropped $250 on furniture to outfit our office as study friendly as possible. The plans are one computer on a desk with writing area for any online coursework/notetaking we need to do. A long desk for spreading books out on for reading, and a small corner workstation with computer for checking email, newsgroups, surfing around... Oh and the first thing we said when we went to buy his books (all 20 of them) is...we need another bookcase!

Lately since its been cold, my favorite place to study is in the bedroom, with the door closed, sitting on the floor with a pillow under me and my back up against the bed, with a little space heater blowing 80* wind at me. Ahhhhhh.....

I cannot study well with others unless its just a review. I get distracted WAY too easily and will spend all the time gossiping and goofing around. I also cant study in the library unless I am hidden in a corner away from the line of sight to anyone or anything else. Otherwise I will find myself watching the bug on the floor, or the guy itching his nose rather than read.

Have I mentioned I hate reading textbooks....ughhh

at the main library at school. It is five stories tall and when you walk in and look up, it feels like you are in this huge museum and I automatically feel smarter. And it acutallu helps that the security guards there are cell phone and talking nazis.
