Hi, I know I should not post this topic here. But since no one answer me on the pre-dental forum, I hope I can get the answer here. I am currently shadowing at a private dental office, and I will earn 40 hrs next week. I am planning to ask a LoR from the dentist, but isn't the application won't start till June? Can I till ask the dentist to send the LoR even if the application cycle does not begin? If so, where should I ask him to send the LoR? If not, should I ask him to write a LoR and send after the application cycle begin? I am a first time applicant and I am so confused about the LoR thing. Thanks for help.

No, you can't send it in yet. When you get your application account made on AADSAS you'll go to the LOR section and you'll hit "Add Letter Writer" and then a bunch of boxes will come up and you fill in your letter writers info, including their email address. AADSAS will then send them an email giving them instructions on how to make a letter writers mini-account and how to upload the letter as a word/pdf/etc document and have it connected to your account, it's all very easy for them.

If you don't want to do it that way, once you make your account you can print out letter of rec matching forms that you give to your letter writer and they include in with the letter that they send to the address on the matching form, but the dental schools REALLY prefer the online method.

Either way, you can ask them to write the letter and hand on to it for another few months, but you can't send it in now.

I would recommend going to see the Pre-Dental advisor at your school for a committee letter. Which basically means that all your letters will go to them and they will organize them and send them in for you.

It's the easiest alternative in my opinion and it's what I'm doing.

You're right, this can often be a good idea, but it can often depend on the school. I didn't do my school's (UCI) for dental because I had heard from many people who went through them that it was a horrible experience and just much easier to send it in themselves.

Up to you, it's pretty easy either way, and some schools do have good letter writing services. One thing not to do is to use the letter writing service to send in like six letters, I've seen people do this before and the schools really don't want more than 3-4, you're giving them more work to do, and if you need 6 letters that really starts to beg the question of why.

Just to clarify, my pre-med advisor will be submitting my LoRs from my professors along with a committee letter. So, I would add just him (my advisor) into AADSAS online form along with the dentist I work for?

Thanks

Yup, if your adviser is sending the letters in a packaged with the committee letters there's an option to choose Committee letter on the site. After that you just do the dentist separately, unless your adviser lets you put the dentist letter in with that too.

So, the best way to go about this is to ask the profs if they will write a LOR, and if they agree, tell them to have it ready before June 1st and expect an email from AADSAS with instructions on how to submit it? Why would any prof wanna do it the complicated way with matching forms and mailing it out??

we cant create an account until june 1st though, right? Also, what is the AADSAS mailing address that we submit our letters to?

I'm not TOTALLY sure if it's you can't make an account until May 15th and then submit it on the 1st or you just can't make an account until the first *I think it's the later*. The Address is like Waterstown Illinois or something like that, I can't seem to find it.

I believe we have to wait until June 1st to create an account...the address is
