Hey All, I am looking for suggestions on where to apply. Essentially, I am heading into this process looking to spend the least amount of money as possible, and almost positive I want to attend my state school. That said, for the right price and program, I could definitely be persuaded to go elsewhere, if offered. Thus, I am looking to apply as few as places as possible, but still increase my chances as much as possible to be accepted elsewhere in case I do not get into my state school.

-GPA: >3.9
-MCAT: 35R (12,11,12)
-very involved in research, won awards, grants, scholarships for such
-have won several scholarships
-volunteered 1 year (85 hrs) in ED
-volunteered in other healthcare area for 1 summer
-shadowed many hours in various specialties
-clinical internship
-triathlons for fun
-tutor
-TA intro bio lab
-member (chair next year) of club to raise funds for cancer research
-volunteer youth athletics coach

My suggested list so far:

state school
mayo
univ of michigan
vanderbilt
baylor
MCW
SLU
Case
Boston
Emory

I tried to add schools I thought I would be competitive at, and that I would truly consider going to if accepted (over state school, if accepted there). I also tried to throw in some schools that seemed to be OOS friendly. I don't want to over reach though, as looking at my list it seems all of my schools could be reaches, and I definitely don't want to not get into my state school, and then not get in anywhere else because I was too ambitious.

What are some schools I could add, some to take off, some friendly to OOS I should consider? Appreciate the help in advance, thanks!

That's a good list for your stats range. Here are a couple of similar schools worth considering:

- Pitt
- Brown
- Virginia
- Dartmouth
- Rochester
- Tufts
- Wake Forest

Wake Forest and Dartmouth were on my overall list, so I like those suggestion, thanks!

I am interested in your Virginia suggestion. Why (just curious) do you suggest Virginia particularly? Good for OOS?

Any other suggestions out there? Mostly for good schools for OOS students that seem like a good fit for where I stand as an applicant, or that I should definitely apply to with a high chance of acceptance?

Thanks

Wow, our stats are almost identical. I have a >3.9, 35R, intensive research, and I also do triathlons for fun! Here is where I am applying just to give you some ideas. I am an Illinois resident and would like to stay in the Midwest (unless Hopkins accepts me of course).

Safeties/Moderate:
University of Illinois-Chicago
Rush
Loyola
University of Iowa
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Reaches:
Hopkins
University of Michigan
Vanderbilt
Washington University in St. Louis
Northwestern
University of Chicago
Mayo

Done. I just discovered the thread discussing the controversy of this and related spreadsheets, so I won't post it in the future.

yeah, i hope you didn't think i was coming down you, but it's best to just play it safe. why risk anything at this point?

Let's assume now that I would want to go anywhere (not just my state school). Does this change anyone's suggestions? Or add any new schools?

After further research, I am thinking:

State School
Loyola
Pritzker
Michigan
Mayo
Duke
Vandy
Baylor
MCW
SLU
Case
Boston
Emory
Northwestern
Harvard
Mt. Sinai
UVA

Help me eliminate/add options por favor. Any schools on this list I should blatantly not apply too (I feel I have many reaches, some of which might be much too far of a reach)? Should I add more safety schools (which ones? Eliminate any of my safeties on list now?)

Thanks!
