Hello,

I am going to be a senior in high school this upcoming fall and I'm lost when it comes to a few things. I want to become a veterinary technician, but I need to know how to proceed when I leave high school next year. I live in Florida and have a pre-paid florida college plan, but does that apply to veterinary technician schools? Does anyone know of accredited vet tech schools in Florida that would be a good choice to get information from or to apply to? I know many techs go to college and major in animal science, zoology, etc and then go to an accredited vet tech school, which is most likely what I would do. I just need to know how to begin because I know that this is what I really want to do. Thank you.

Sincerely, Luna.

I'm curious: Is vet tech training very different in the US than in Canada? I know of a CVMA accredited program in New Brunswick, which allows graduates to write the licensing exam. It's 2 years long, and a high school diploma (assuming good marks, strong in sciences, etc) is all that's needed for admission.

That's about the same as in the US. There are also a couple of 4 year programs.

I dont know anything about tech programs, but I do know that you can withdraw all of your PrePaid money and use it for whatever you want (i.e. you could apply it toward tech school tuition if the school won't accept PrePaid). I know this because I was going to withdraw my PrePaid money and use it for a car and am now really glad that I didn't 🙂
