During my interview morning at TCOM, they stated 85% of their 4th years got into one of their top three residency choices. Although I'm sure many if not most were FM residencies making it difficult to compare to allopathic schools, are there any resources comparing match rates of specific schools to other schools? I've been to many of the residency sites, but running into dead ends.

I'm probably asking a question that is either unanswerable or very basic, but I want to learn more about how to compare apples to apples between programs. Thanks.

Actually, your pre-imposed notion of DO schools sending most of their graduates to FM is dead wrong, especially for TCOM which is a very strong program. Although (I wait for JP to blast me for generalizing) they do send a higher average (read a couple percent more) to FM. Feel free to utilize the search function to see...type in "TCOM" and "Residency list" to see how well they fare.

You mean preconceived right? I'm staring at a match list right now from TCOM's class of 2005 and a significant number are FM or IM residencies. That's fine because I am looking at going into primary care. However, I am actually looking for data that supports the statistic TCOM cited during the interview (i.e. 85% make their top three choices).

Either I asked the question poorly or you need a nap. 🙂

I do need a nap, pre-imposed sounded good, but preconceived is probably what I was looking for. However, When you look at the list you cant overlook the Intership spots because usually they are doing them for a more competetive residency. Take a look at the 2007 list, its a little more impressive and not just the types residency, but where they are going.
It can be found 3/4 down the page here:

Check AOA's website, and also call and ask TCOM about thier matches. AOA offers some interesting info about the percent of DO grads in specialties. I found that calling schools or searching their websites yeilded much more accurate information in a much more timely fashion than this site. Nothing against SDN, but there is a lot of junk to sift through before you can find what you are looking for around here. Good Luck!
