Hello:
When I interviewed at NEWENCO, I stayed at the Sheraton at Prudential Center. It certainly wasnt cheap ($139/night) but it is a really nice hotel which is connected to this huge shopping mall. There is a subway station (Green Line) right inside the mall so you dont have to go outside to catch it. That worked out well for me since it was so cold when I was there. The Orange Line is not too far away also. The Sheraton is within walking distance to the college, and it took me about 10 minutes to get there in the morning. Plus, you will walk pass Newbury Street which is a lot of fun. Youll be walking in the Back Bay area, so its very safe but be careful when walking in your heels! I almost twisted my ankle
🙂
I would recommend trying Priceline.com if you want a cheaper price for a nicer hotel. Before you bid on Priceline, first read through this forum:
www.biddingfortravel.com
Biddingfortravel has helped me get amazing rates for hotels in the past. I won a bid for $25/night at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine for my parents when they came to my graduation.
My friend who was interviewing at NEWENCO on the same day stayed at the Guest House on 463 Beacon Street (about $95/night?). He said it was OK but parking was expensive as is everywhere else in Boston (expect to pay at least $30/night for you car). The Guest House is about 2 minutes walking distance from the college.
You may also want to contact the school to see if any of their students will allow you to stay with them for a night. One of my friends did that and had a pretty good time even though she had to sleep on the floor the night before her interview. Plus, I interviewed during the Christmas time so hotel prices were more expensive especially in the area where the school is.
NEWENCO actually sent me a list of recommended hotels. If you didnt receive a copy, you can let me know so I can scan it for you.
If you have the time, I would recommend visiting the Museum of Fine Arts (
http://www.mfa.org/). I brought my parents there and we all enjoyed it. Also, on Wednesdays after 4 pm, admission is by voluntary contribution. On Thursdays and Fridays after 4:45 pm, admission is reduced by $2. A few wings were closed but we still did not have enough time to explore all the galleries that were open.
We had dinner at Durgin-Park at Faneuil Hall Market (
http://www.durgin-park.com/). The restaurant has been open since the 1827 and has a great atmosphere. The portions are huge! My dad had ordered the prime rib and my mom ordered the lobster and both were the size of my head. Delicious though!
I know you didnt ask for any recommendations on what to do around the area but Boston is a great city to explore so I hope you do have the chance to visit some places. Chinatown was a bit disappointing compared to the ones in San Francisco and New York.
I lived around the area where SCCO is so I didnt stay at the hotel, and I did not interview at PCO.
Good luck!
Best wishes,
Rosanna
