Right now I already got one professor (got an A in his chem class) to send it to PharmCAS.

I am planning on getting another professor (who I did research for), a pharmacy mentor (UCSF student who knows me well), a Rite Aid pharmacist (someone that I volunteered for but not for long), or a higher-educated pharmacist (someone that I had conflict with, but I volunteered for longer.)

Well the story behind the higher-educated pharmacist was: I planned on getting a LOR from him, but something went wrong. This pharmacist used the LOR to threaten his students.. such as doing labor work at his home, treating him out to lunch, shopping for his needs, etc. And then one day he asked me to treat him out to the 5th lunch and then he'll write me a letter of rec. I stood up for myself and asked why is the 5th lunch necessary and he said it's his system to get a LOR from him. Then he got pissed off and decided not to write me one anymore even though I finished all my 170+ hours at his pharmacy. Then he threatened me again to work for him as a tech for free until he feels like I'm ready for the LOR. I refused to do it and then a few weeks later, he called me and decided to write me one again, but I am afraid he will write a bad one.

What should I do? Which ones should I keep that will give me a better advantage?

Thank you for all your input and sorry for the long message.

uh are you kidding me?! That's borderline unprofessional. why are you even asking this question? the definite answer is NO! In fact, you should report him for bribery. That is just not how a pharmacist should act. wow. NO NO NO. get the pharmacist who worked for shorter to write you one

I don't know where I would report him to though...? And I'm not sure if people will believe me, he's been doing this for awhile. And his letter of rec is definitely stronger than others because he has a higher education and writes longer and deeper (that's what he told me.) Thanks for your input!

Which one doesn't belong: one, two, three, or potato?

Seriously, this is a no brainer. Don't use the LOR from the slave labor pharmacist.

But don't you think it would look better if I got a LOR from a higher-educated pharmacist?

You're assuming he'll write you a good letter. What if the guy is an a**hole and stabs you in the back?

and what does "higher educated" mean? The short term pharmacist is just as qualified...

I would just go ahead and pick three new college professors to write your letters for you.

Kevchen, As much as I love you as a friend, not sure why it's so hard to nail this into your head. He is a BAD BAD PHARMACIST! He uses bribery for LORs seriously. That's super unprofessional. and what do you mean by higher educated pharmacist?! All pharmacists have the same level of education, a pharmD. He has more experience in a pharmacy. but that doesn't mean anything.

You can have a great pharmacist write you a great letter that you've only worked with for not long. Or you can have a pharmacist who makes students buy him lunch and threatens other people write you a really crappy letter.

Thought you were smarter than that.:beat:😴

Yeah, I'm sorry I sound really stupid... it is just that I spent 160+ hours already at his pharmacy and it's hard to let go all the hard work I put in.

Higher educated pharmacist means that he went to a great pharm school in Cali and owns his own pharmacy, while the other pharmacist went somewhere in another country and works at Rite Aid... so I was wondering if that part matters?

Thanks for all your guys responses. It means alot to me.

As long as theyre not a crooked rph, and passed the same state board exam, it doesn't make much of difference.

Borderline unprofessional?? It's borderline illegal. It is coercion and probably is illegal. My guess is that why he suddenly decided to give you a recommendation after you stood up to him is that he doesn't want you to make trouble for him. And seriously, just because he waxes on about the breadth and beauty of his magic LORs doesn't mean its true. He's a con artist and he's preying on your anxiety about getting into pharmacy school.

Wow..Kevchen, you seem like such a nice person, i cannot believe this pharmacist made you do all that stuff.. I definitely agree with everyone, DO NOT get a letter from this "pharmacist" he sounds nothing like a caring pharmacist should be.

I have a dilema with LORs, myself.. please help

I am applying to a number of pharm schools via PharmCAS. There are some schools that require 4 LORs and some that require only 2.

I have 4 (i think are strong) letters already submitted:
1-from my Pharmacist i volunteer for the past 4 summers. (sent in via mail)
(sent in via Email)
1 -from my Physical chemistry professor, whose also the Associate Dean of the College of Science&Math.
1-from my undergraduate Research PI (organic drug design, he also teaches O.chem for grad students), whose also the Vice-Chair of the Chem/Biochem dept.
1- from the CEO/President of Prescribing Hope Organization- He's 2nd-yr med. student, who created his own Medical Relief international organization. As Pharmacy chair, i make monthly trips to Mexico to organize the pharmacy, and i prescribe/explain dosages to patients in Spanish (im Vietnamese).

So my dilema is that I have to submit 4 LORs, is there a specific order that i have to have the letters submitted? each school requires one letter from the Pharmacist, PharmCAS sends all letters to the schools, right? the schools that require 2 or 3, will they read all 4 letters?? what is their selection method??

Thank you so much in advance!
