Hi yall, I've been looking around and I can't figure this out...

I want to take the Amtrak to Baltimore but there are two stations in Baltimore. While one is closer to Johns hopkins med school?

Thanks!!

I wasn't aware that there were two amtrak stations in Baltimore, but if I were you I'd go to Penn Station as that's the main one that most people go to. A cab to Hopkins med shouldn't be *too* expensive, anyone know how much it is? I know it's about $8 to get to the undergrad campus from Penn Station. Hopkins does operate a shuttle that runs from the undergrad campus --> med campus with stops at Penn Station, see: http://www.parking.jhu.edu/shuttles_jhmi-homewood.html
It's technically supposed to just be for Hopkins students, but no one checks IDs, so you could take it for free. I'd recommend a cab though, just to make sure you're on time, etc.

Yep it's about 5-10 dollars to UNDERGRAD, and probably around 8-15 dollars to MED CAMPUS, depending on traffic. I would recommend cab. Baltimore traffic can change to slow or fast pretty quickly and you don't want to be late.

The shuttle stops on either side of Penn Station. The St. Paul street stop is going to the MED CAMPUS. The N.Charles street stop is going to the UNDERGRAD campus. For going to the med campus, plan around 8-10 minutes after the departure times in "Departing from Homewood." If for some reason you are catching it to the undergrad campus, it's around 15 minutes after the departure times under "Departing from JHMI."

I'm from Baltimore and I can assure you that it is indeed Baltimore Penn Station. From there, HopkinsMed is a just few minutes drive away.

The only other one that I can think that Amtrak will stop at will be BWI Airport station and that is by no means close to the Medical or UG campus. Unless ofcourse you need to take the plane

No... there is the BWI stop and then BAL/Penn Station. According to Mapquest, Penn Station is only about 1.9 miles away from N. Broadway.

Sure doesn't feel like it although a straight shot I wouldn't be surprised to be only 2 miles. One of these mornings I will time the ride from Penn Station to the med campus for you guys. Are you all coming the morning of the interview? Or the night before? If it is the night before you will have no problem getting a cab and riding over to the med campus. If it is in the morning, like I said it varies on traffic. 8AM = pwnage.

Hmmm... this could be problematic. I decided to take the 9something train down from Philly, which would put me in Baltimore at 10:40. I need to sign in by 11:30. I was going to see if my dad could pick me up and take me there -- or take a cab. Do you think 50 minutes is not enough time? 😱

no 50 minutes is more than enough time to get there. At 10:40 the traffic has long since died down.

I know this. The OP says there are two stops in baltimore. I ventured a guess into the other one. I know where Penn station is thank you.

Meeeeeeeoooooow. Somebody woke up on the bitchy side of the bed.

Edit: Unless I misread your internet tone (which is easy to do), in which case, I am the one who woke up on the bitchy side.

Actually I did wake up on the bitchy side of the bed this morning, although I would prefer to just call it the wrong side.

Having an altogether offday this morning...but I'm glad that's over. I've had lunch, I'm rejuvenated, I'm back at work and I'm going to take this opportunity to apologize to you. I'm sure you probably just misread my post (the first one), and there was no need to start off on a pissy rant. So, in essense, I am sorry. Enjoy this by the way, they will definately be few in number.

But really I do know where Penn Station is. I catch the MARC train there every morning.

Anyway, I hope the OP has his information and there is no further cause to get off-topic here. There are so much other threads for that.

It's that Bmore pride... we could give new yorkers a run for their money

Good luck today Severus. If you see a drunken Superman on Monument running into cars give me a wave

yeah....I second that...Balitmore is an armpit. I was a JH Hospital back in 01 and just remember what a total dump the surrounding area was.

I will never forget that I tripped over an old nasty artificial leg complete with ragged shoe attached IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET! Someone had discarded a left it.

I cannot make this up.
