I failed general chemistry a few semesters ago. I am going to take it this fall. I want to make an A, but the schools chemistry book doesnt do a good job of explaining the material to me to where I can understand it. What self-taught chemistry book should I buy so I will understand college level chemistry? (example: Cliffsnotes, Princeton Review, Schaum's outlines for college chemistry, ect ect...)
I am not taking the DAT until 2010, so I am just wanting a book that will explain college chemistry in an easy way for me to understand it.
I need an A! So...which books will do the trick?

Well, everyone responds and learns from different things... I'd say go seek out a chem-help book at the bookstore, and see which one suits you best. Can you understand what the heck it's saying? Does it have step-by-step instructions? Or does it just throw the answer at you and expect you to figure it out on your own?
Also, tutoring will definitely not hurt you.
If your school doesn't offer free tutoring (some do), then think about seeking help from someone who can show you how it's done.
Professors have office hours in which you can seek help.. take advantage of every moment of that.

What about Princeton Review AP chem? They contain most basic and important concepts of college g-chem textbooks.

Then, the most important thing you should do must be to study hard during g-chem classes. I think homeworks and quizzes are enough for ur practice purpose. However, I don't know if ur g-chem class has assignments and quizzes to build up ur problem solving skill.

There must be many great problems in ur textbook. DAT g-chem requires problem solving skills. It's not conceptual! Oh~ now it's a lot conceptual! But, in fact, the most challenging questions are not coneptual, but tricky math.

I think so!

Yeah, I used the same book, and for me it was easy to follow stuff.
Espesially, one of the authors is from UIUC 😀
