I'm deciding between biochemistry and evolution, both 4 credit lecture courses.

On the one hand biochemistry is required for a handful of medical schools and taking it would allow me to matriculate to those schools should I be accepted. But at the same time it is supposedly far more difficult to ace it at my local university than evolution.

On the other hand I am far more interested in evolution and I am much more confident in my ability to do well in and enjoy evolution. It would also fit in my schedule better.

Moreover, I've never taken an intro to biochemistry course of any kind and I was told taking biochemistry during undergrad is a great prep class before taking it in medical school. I'm also in good standing with of one of the professors who is teaching it.

I've thought about taking it online but I've taken online classes before and both online programs that I know of that offer it (UNE prerequisites and UC berkeley extension) have a reputation of being far worse than my local university's biochemistry

So basically I'm asking should I go for a potential GPA bump and take evolution or try my luck at biochemistry?

3.27cgpa 3.27 sgpa 27 mcat (8/9/10)

I'm a postbac doing gpa repair btw. Hoping for luck this semester and looking for a potential jump to 3.4 cgpa and sgpa after the fall.

Since Biochem was added to the the new mcat does it become a prerequisite for the next cycle? If so I would of course take Biochem instead of evol. I took Biochem and even though it's much more difficult I loved it. Imagine biology topics with organic rationales? Sounds like a win win

Take biochem. Or do both if you can. Maybe evolution at your university and biochem through une or Berkeley extension if it is feasible since you can pace yourself through une. Have you factored what your gpa will be with an A or B in either course?

Its a negligible increase if I take both since neither are retakes.

I'm actively trying to avoid another UNE course. They are not worth the massive amount of effort required in my experience.

If anyone knows of another decent online biochemistry course chime in.

Right now I'm leaning toward evolution but I haven't made up my mind.

IMy instinct is telling me to try berkeley extension assuming I only get accepted to a school that requires it, in which case I'll take it as a last resort before matriculation.

Biochem would likely be the more useful of the two classes as you will be seeing it again in medical school.
