Alright I'm trying to decide between these two classes. They are for my universities requirement about taking 2 upper division classes outside your department and/or college. Anyway these are the 2.

Astronomy 305V "Search for Life in the Universe"
and
Physics 305V "Search for Water in the Solar System"

Now the reason I'm asking this is because the Astronomy class is something I really would like to do and I love learning about stuff like that.

But the physics class is only 5 people (astronomy is 60), and I could really use another science LOR and the class has an amazing teacher. Plus its not like I am not interested in the physics class, its just the other sounds a little more interesting.

Any thoughts?

do the physics one. the two classes are probably almost the same. only five people? I've never been in a class that small in my life. do it and get that LOR.

They sound like the same class. The 5 person class may get cancelled..thats how things worked at my college.

Well technically it has slots for up to 30 people but only 5 have signed up as of now which means that is pretty much how big the class will be. I have never seen my university drop a class before.

Thanks guys! I was thinking it would be a better choice to take that one.

Forget those classes; take one on underwater basket weaving. I hear those might have some practical application in case of more BP-esque disasters. And you could totally spin it as a science class, I bet!

👍👍👍

This all the way.

But in seriousness, take the physics class with 5 ppl. I've had classes with 5 ppl and it's awesome. It's a great way to get close to a prof.

This.

Whenever I choose classes, I choose a class that best accomplishes the following:
-lets me improve my study habits
-makes me learn a lot
-has an outstanding professor
-has a 'social' component to it (class participation or something) so that I can develop better interpersonal skills
-is small as to improve the learning environment and increase one on one time with the professor (this leads to better relationships and a potentially good LOR in the future); also forces you to go to class
-the grade is made up of exams, homework, a research paper, projects, presentations; this hits most of the areas so that you best learn the material

Astronomy is for the win, but I think you should go with physics.

I once took a graduate course with ten people. Class was held in a small conference room in a discussion manner and it was one of the most meaningful classes I've ever taken.
HW and exams ripped me into pieces and had me for lunch but I learned so much!

I took a class that was very similar to the first one. Actually I took two classes like that for my graduate degree.
