I currently attend UCSB & I'm not sure how to proceed in regards to which classes I need to take for my intro-bio prerequisites.
The premed UCSB site says that intro-bio consists of:
MCDB 1A (4 units): Intro. To Biology I: Introduction to biochemistry, cell biology and development, and genetics.
MCDB 1B (3 units): Intro. To Biology II: Introduction to animal and plant physiology.
MCDB 1LL (1.5 units): Intro. To Biology I Lab
EEMB 2 (2 units): Intro. To Biology II: Introduction to population and community ecology, and evolution.
EEMB 3 (3 units): Intro. To Biology III: Introduction to the major groups of microbes, plants, and animals.
EEMB 2LL (1.5 units): Intro. To Biology Lab II

There are 4 courses required w/ 2 labs that they state are needed. However, do I really need to finish it? Would I be able to skip EEMB 3 if I finish at least 3 courses.

It kinda varies from school school. Some schools (such as UCSD) don’t have any lower division bio labs at all (or at least they didn’t when I was back in college).

Generally speaking, medical schools are acutely aware that different schools have different operating styles.

Regardless, however, make sure to take upper division bio coursework in molecular bio, cell bio, genetics, neuroscience, and/or physiology as they will help with the MCAT, look good on the application, and will satisfy any bio requirement that med schools want.

There are varied opinions about whether or not it’s advisable for a pre-med non-science major to take upper division bio course work or not. Given the countless number of medical schools that either recommend or entourage upper division bio coursework, and the fact that upper division coursework is weighted more heavily, I’d say it’s important.
