Hi all, I am a Canadian student and am wanting to apply to the US Pharm schools. I have looked at many universities and their requirements and all, and I have everything needed.... however, I am confused as to apply to private or public schools/colleges? I have heard that private schools acceept more international applicants than public schools. Just wanted to know, are private schools any different than public schools? What is the difference in them, if there is any? Can someone please brief me up on this!!!

Your help is very much appreciated!!

Private schools do accept more international students, this is true.

Public Schools- They are founded by tax dollars of whatever state they reside in in the US. Public State schools will accept a large percent (60-80%) residents of the state they are in, tax dollars want their money going toward pharmacists that are likely to stay around in that state.

Private Schools- Have no obligation to applicants from any state, they base admission on the applicant and their merit. They are funded by private donations and tuition.

Private schools are probably your best bet but I would guess that even private schools only accept a few international students. Look into schools that claim to strive for diversity....being from another country with a different medical system you would bring a different view of the health care team.

Hope this helped
