I am a bit confused on which LoR we need for dental, I plan on applying in all 3 texas schools and a few OOS. From my understanding we need 2 Science professors and 1 doctor letter? Just curious on how people approach the 2 science professors, none of my teachers really dont know me...

Depends on the school. Some require:

  • (up to) 3 science, 1 dentist
  • Non-environmental science/non-plant biology science professors
  • 2 science, 1 arts, 1 dentist
  • 1 bio, 1 chem, 1 physics, 1 dentist
  • Religious reference/clergy person
  • previous work employer

Approach them at the beginning of the semester. Tell them you like their lectures.
Research them on the school website and ask them how their researches going if they are doing any.
Take their lab.
Go to their office and ask questions.
If your prof is pregnant, ask about her baby...
If your prof has a cute daughter, ask about her (yeah right)
You get the idea.

_I believe most of the schools require 2 science, 1 non-science and 1 from a dentist or mentor.... Go to your Texas DS website. The info is there somewhere.

Thanks for your answer! I have a hard time talking to professors like this, though; I feel like I'm brown-nosing and they know it. Is there any way around that or do I have to suck it up and deal? 😕

the alternative is to get the highest score in the class [or one of the highest] after going to their office hours and asking intelligent questions. =\

it differs with each professor, but usually you just have to deal with it. some moments get awkward, sometimes at the end of the quarter they refuse to write you a letter. It sucks, but you move on, a rejection is a rejection, no biggie. And even though sometimes it gets awkward, if you think about it, every premed/predent student goes through this, and the profs know what you're trying to do also. 😛

Yep... If you feel that way so don't talk about how much you love their lectures and stuff.

Iust go to their office and ask a bunch of questions about the lecture or exam. Show them that you are trying very hard to get good grades (even you are not getting a good grade, don't worry. The problem is you are trying your best in their class and you love the subject). Ask them how to study for their class.

Then if you have a chance, start asking them about their research or something similar. The reason why I mention about this is that I am working in a Research Center at my University and I know for the fact that profs LOVEEEEEE to talk about their research. Who know, they might ask you to do research as well.

Remember, you just want to create a connection. Nothing sneaky. You are not doing anything bad so don't worry🙂

If you ace next exam, believe me they will remember your name out of... 200 students. Happen to me all the time.

Nothing fancy right?

Good luck.
