I've been volunteering regularly at a local free clinic since the beginning of August 2015 and am starting to think about who to ask for a LOR. I have been performing various tasks within the clinic, including administrative tasks, screening patients (history, vitals, etc), and helping with the physical therapy clinic.

I am debating who to ask for a LOR. Option A is the volunteering coordinator. She's been a mentor to me since I started volunteering and has known me the longest. However, she would be unable to speak to my capabilities when it comes to what I actually do in the clinic/patient interaction. She can more speak to my personal qualities.
Option B is the physical therapist I work with. I have been volunteering and helping her and a PTA for a few months. I would not have thought to ask her, but she pulled me aside during the last PT clinic and told me that she would be happy to write me a letter if I ever needed one because she admires how I work with patients. The con is that I have not known her as long. I am not sure what means more- being able to speak to my healthcare experience or length of time known.

What do you all think? Thank you for your input!! 🙂

I would ask for a LOR from both so you have them in case you want to use either. If you had to pick one to use, I would probably ask for the LOR from the PT. From what you've described, it sounds like the PT would be able to write a stronger LOR because she knows you better and can attest to your ability to work with patients. The volunteer LOR might not be as in depth of a letter.

Ah! Great points. I will go ahead and ask for both of them. Thank you both! 🙂
