hi guys
how r u ?

recently i showed interest in medical field since i am trying to find what major suits me , since i am a junior in high school . so i spend like 5 days searching for affordable medical schools , i looked into russia and i didnt like it and the same for romania , ukraine and bulgaria , and in the US and Europe there are good med schools but they are so pricey , so my sights fell on china since many of my friends that graduated last year went to med school in china , to be specific in wuhun university . so i started searching for nice med schools in china , but i found many but what i looked close into is the wuhun university and nanchang university and i liked them alot . but i had some questions in mind since i dont have alot of info on this field . my questions may seem stupid but please bare with me alittle bit . so my questions are

1) is a chinese MBBS worth it ?
2) what are the best 20 med schools in china that offer an MBBS ?
3) i heard for someone who got an MBBS and wants to practice medicine in the US need an exam called USMLE , so what is it about ?
4) what is residency and internships ? and when do we start studying for the speciliaty we choose ?
5) i am confused on what programs does the university offer , so does clincal medicine mean when i graduate i graduate as a general doctor ( practicer ) ?
6) what countries do u suggest me to search for med schools in ?
7 ) if i took my residency out of the US , can i then work in the US ?
8) i have seen that there is a doctoral and master degree in medicine is this true ?
sorry for having so much questions .
thanks

see you soon 🙂

Ok, so you're obviously not from the US so there's a lot of differences between US medical education and other countries. Before you can get into medical school in the US you have to finish your undergraduate degree first while in other countries you can go straight from high school. So, based on your last question I"m going to answer your questions assuming you want to practice in US someday.

1. I don't know about this MBBS program. Any licensed foreign medical graduate can come to the US to practice but they must do extremely well in the USMLE 1,2 and 3s and also do a residency in the US (I believe).

2. see 1

3. USMLE is a standardized test administered to gauge the competency in level of medical education for people who want to practice medicine in the US. STEP1 is basic science material, STEP2 and 3 are more clinical.

4. You start studying for your chosen specialty during residency. Your last year of medical school you apply to a specialty (IM, ER, Derm, Gen Surg, etc) and once you match you start your residency. First year residents are called interns. Each residency length varies depending on the specialty with surgical specialties taking longer than primary care ones.

5. Not sure how other countries do it but here in the US, once you graduate medical school you have to do a residency otherwise your MD degree is just about useless. So, no technically you're really only an MD in paper but not in practice. Again this is true for America.

6. Can't really say, do what you want

7. No, if you do your residency out of the US you have to take the USMLEs and redo your residency before practicing. This is needed to make sure your level of competence is on par with US regulations

The prior post is accurate, but I would add that if you intend to practice in the US, your best chance is going to be to attend med school in the US. The majority of foreign medical school grads do not land a US residency.

1) Only if you speak chinese and want to practice in asia.
2) I couldn't even tell you the best 20 US schools.
3) Well, it's about medicine. Especially the basic science aspects of it.
4) Google it bucko
5) Sort of, you have to do an interneship first and in most states a residency.
6) The one that you want to practice in
7) No.
8) The only medicine degrees in the US are DO and MD, both are doctorates. In other countries the equivalent is often a masters/bachelors. It is accepted as equivalent as long as you pass the USMLE and do residency here.
