How does USC undergrad manage to have such high SAT scores and yet have an overflow of hot girls? It doesn't compute. 😕

Affirmative action for hotness.

These threads become "my school" plugfests.. which I find annoying so..

I guess I'll have to plug Case Western then.

US News ranking ranging from #16-#24 in recent years.

New affiliation with Cleveland Clinic - one of the best comprehensive hospital systems in the US, right behind Hopkins and Mayo Clinic. I really believe that this will be the piece that takes Case Western into the future. What whould hopkins be with out Hopkins Hospital? Or Harvard without Mass Gen and Brigham and Womens?

$246 million in NIH grants, within the top 15 for medical schools I believe, a new ambitious dean, a new medical school (Lerner), new medical school building in the works.

Not to mention the undergrad coming up a ways in the past couple of years. When my sister was thinking about going there ~10 years ago, their SAT's was in the triple digits. Now they are doing better than UCLA.

That makes total sense. When i was applying to college back in 1995, USC was the "University of Stupid Chinese" / "University of Spoiled Children" and you only went there if you couldnt get into a UC and your rich parents wanted you to stay nearby. I guess they've really turned things around. It's hard to get rid of the reputation though amongst us older people.

When D.A. Henderson (eradicated smallpox from EARTH) took his entire staff and his enormous federal grant for the Center for Biodefense and left Hopkins he decided to choose Pittsburgh. Enough said.

My next choice is UCSF, actually to tell you the truth I think they are the greatest school now. The rankings mean nothing, you should think about the training and the research because research is what changes medicine. No physician or researcher questions whether UCSF is great or top notch they just accept it as fact, even here at Hopkins. So the question is not if UCSF is the greatest medical school in the nation, the question is by how much.

And why the hell don't we have that same system at UCSD undergrad? Lord knows we need it. 😡

I think hot girls should get the benefits of affirmative action for real. If you think about it, they are a minority at some schools.

Rich students can no longer buy their way into USC undergrad? When did this happen? 😱

Don't worry, they still can. USC just buys enough 1500+ SAT scores now to offset the legacy and glamour types. Tit for tat (pun intended).

I say Finch (Rosalind Franklin) is on the rise....

They are about to lose their accreditation so they can go and start their OWN accreditation....how many medical schools can say they are self-accredited?

Drew University????

Drew university isnt losing accreditation, their residency programs are. You know that.

😀 Irresistible indeed. Why does everyone have to be so incorrect all the time. There will never be a correct answer until I am taken off a waitlist somewhere! In the mean time, in case of you all are getting tired from swinging your things too wild, try U of Washington and U of Iowa. They are not just on primary care rise anymore. 👍

Oh look, its the idiot who thinks he knows everythign about medical schools, despite the fact that HE'S NOT IN MEDICAL SCHOOL and has no clue about Hopkins school of medicine to begin with.

Stick to speaking about public health schools, cause you got no clue about medical school.

where can i take this certification exam to be an expert on medical school? with all the **** you talk on here you must have some license or degree to be saying the things you say.

Yeah but that guy's statements were ridiculous regarding "So the question is not if UCSF is the greatest medical school in the nation, the question is by how much."

I mean come on. Opinions like this which try to get rided as fact are the reason I don't frequent message boards as much as I used to.

obviously this thread's posts will carry a decent deal of bias - it should be expected when you come in here. but to discount someone as an idiot who knows nothing about medicine, medical schools, and the medical industry is pretty pompous. IIRC he's a 4th year, which means he obviously has more experience with med school and the wards, but he is by no means an expert on all things medically related. yet it appears that he thinks he is...

Rising doesn't mean numbers *****. I think MCW is on the way up, frieghter has one of the best children's hospitals in the country I believe. They are still building up the academic portion of the school.
Froedtert?

I would agree that MCW seems to be shimmying up the list.

I hope everyone can see how touchy Hopkins people can be when their favorite school's prestige is called into question. I will even beat MacGyver to his next post, which will detail how the Hopkins Hospital has once again ranked first in the USNEWS poll, so save it. I knew I would anger all the hopkins folk with the reminder about D.A. because he was one of Hopkins biggest names. MacGyver, you suck and I pity your classmates and every damn person you come into contact because they will invariably hear about your affiliation with Hopkins within 5 minutes. Maybe you should take Cameron's advice (which he gave at the graduation this year) and not boast about Hopkins, you know he was the chair of surgery for decades, he might know something you don't, jackass. And the last time I checked my school came in first in the rankings Mr. Rankings Slave, not a lowly third place.

YOU ARE NOT EVEN IN MEDICAL SCHOOL! YOUR OPINION ON MEDICAL SCHOOLS IS TOTALLY IRRELEVANT!!! 🙄

You are some glorified public health lackey who thinks that makes him an expert on medical schools.

1) DA Henderson's facilty had NOTHING to do with the medical school. You are making fun of your own institution, because he took it away from teh SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH, not the medical school.

2) How many times do I have to tell you that I dont go to Hopkins? I got tired of Baltimore, and decided to go to school elsewhere. HOWEVER, your slams on Hopkins Med are based on such bull**** that I have to call you out on it. YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH HOPKINS MED, SO QUIT PRETENDING YOU ARE SOME KIND OF INSIDER. I know far more people (both students and faculty) there than you do, I worked there for a number of years WITHIN THE MEDICAL SCHOOL, I know the dean (the NEW dean as well as the one who's going back to his full time hepatology practice) as well as many others in the faculty and administration.

You are truly stooping to an all time low, trying to claim that DA Hendersons departure had anything at all to do with the rep of the med school. Henderson was affiliated WTIH THE PUBLIC HEALTH SCHOOL, NOT THE MEDICAL SCHOOL. Quit spreading lies and misleading statements.

BTW, Hopkins Hospital finished #1 again for like the 20th year in a row. Where was UCSF? Oh yeah, they were a distant #6. Unlike DA Henderson and his biosafety center, the hospital has DIRECT IMPLICATIONS on the school of medicine.

BTW, going to Hopkins Med graduation doenst make you an insider. I know the real reason you decided to attend the event. I bet you have fun little day dreaming sessions where you imagine yourself getting a diploma from Hopkins Med. Perhaps you should seek help in the Meyer building of the main hospital. I know a number of good psychiatric faculty that would be happy to discuss your feelings of inferiority towards Hopkins Med, and thus your irrational approaches trying to denigrate them constantly.

You havent been paying attention. The guy I was responding to is a PUBLIC HEALTH STUDENT. He has no clue about medical schools, yet he routinely tries to pretend as if he's an insider to medical schools in general, and Hopkins in particular. I'm simply calling bull**** on his little charade.

Congratulations! You win the SDN Arrogant Hypocrite award! 👍

that was a joke exmike, thought you would have caught that.

I just want to say thanks to whoever started this pissing contest of a thread. What's with all the wash u hostility by the way?

WashU is a perennial source of hostility on these forums, primarily because of the extraordinarily high average MCAT score for matriculants. Some people claim that the school is simply manipulating the US News rankings methodology to boost its ranking, the implication of this argument being that WashU doesn't "deserve" its status as the #2 school in the country.

Based on my own experience with WashU, I think this criticism is totally off base. I interviewed there and I strongly believe that the school is fantastic--definitely one of the very best in the country. Although, St. Louis seems like a crappy city (it's damn cheap though, which is great for broke medical students)

Wash U was the only school to send me an letter after I recieved my high MCAT score and specifically asked me to apply. You would think that would mean you would get an interview at the school if you apply, but that's not the case. It was just a plat (and a good one) to increase the number of aplications to the school because I never would have applied there otherwise.
