As long as you keep December and January open you'll have plenty of time for all your interviews. I'd recommend trying to do as many prelim/transitional interviews in November as possible, but worst case you could definitely get away with doing your SubI then.
If you already have away rotations lined up, then choose August (a great away rotation month) so that the Sub-I will be on your application transcript. I did all of my prelim interviews in November because I knew that I would be staying in the same city as my med school; so if you too know that you will not be moving for internship, then it is best to get those out of the way in November. If on the other hand you want to do internship in the same area where you will be doing residency, then you will likely just have to try and fit those prelim interviews around the time of your residency interviews (December/January) to cut down on expenses.
i've got 3 aways lined up for june, july and (august vs. sept)
So what I'm gathering is that August would be the best month for the sub-I? I definitely want to do my internship in the same city as residency... Also between a heme-onc vs. regular internal medicine sub-I which one should I pick?
If you have the option, I'd say do the 3rd RO away in August - you'll be submitting your ERAS application in early September, and probably want letters in no later than October. If you're looking to get any potential letters from the 3rd away, you could be cutting it close - ie, asking a letter writer for a 2 week or less turnaround...
