Hi,

I'm curious as to which of these schools places more students in specialties:

University of Detroit Mercy

New York University

Case Western

Howard

University of Buffalo

University of Alabama at Birmingham

Thanks.

probably nyu. the class size is 2 to 3 times the size of all the other schools.

^ Ok. I'm looking more for the overall percentage of students who get matched, or the quality of the residencies the students get. I'm open to subjective assessments, but I would love some statistics (or info on where to get these stats)

Thanks.

We have had residents from most of the above... it really depends on who wants to apply. Many schools suggest/push students to apply for advanced program. some schools don't even speak about.

Acceptance is based on what you do... a 8 to 5 just passing... or someone who really wants to learn

I would go with the school that is least expensive and near an area you want to spent 4 years.

A graduate program can/should be done in another location... then you decide where you want to practice

Is it possible to find statistics on what percentage of graduates from each school goes into a dental residency? Also, does the name of the school you go to matter significantly if you have high boards and a high ranking?

Thanks.

Each residency program may favor a school if they have had good residents from there or hate the school.

Since each student is different, we go on the individual students record.

Each school probably would have that info. I do not recall seeing it in the ADEA (dental educators) files, or the ADA's files. As I said the difference may be on the push/mentoring to help students decide if they want a residency. The faculty you select from recommendations also makes a difference. Some write excellent letters, some don't. I often call to check.

so the school name doesnt matter that much ? they look for individual records ? because i want to specialize and i got accepted at both howard and BU and i dont know which one to pick. i want to pick howard because it is really cheaper than BU (100 k cheaper) but some say that BU reputation would help me, is that true ? thank u
