Hello guys

To those who know oral residency programs well, which program offers a strong traditional part of OMFS? (stronger focus on dentoalveolar, implant, anesthesia than cancer, craniofacial, or trauma)

Could you name a few?

Thanks

Traditional OMS includes trauma and orthognathic surgery (craniofacial).

If you don’t like the trauma aspect then omfs may not be for you. Sorry but that’s a big component of the specialty and it’s part of what makes our specialty what it is. We are surgeons, not periodontists.

It's not that I don't like trauma, but I just wanted to know which program focuses more on the dentoalveolar surgery.

See - any GPR affiliated with one of NYC's finest gun and knife clubs.

Have a go, mate!

I've seen this sentiment echoed by practicing surgeons as well. They stated that if the bulk of your envisioned practice will focus on dentoalveolar, save yourself the time, $$, and pains associated with an OMS residency and just do a GPR involving a strong OS component with IV sedation experience or an OS intern year.
