Hello,

I'm considering a post bac program because I need to boost my GPA. Here is my story: I graduated with my associates at a 3.72, transferred to a university and did terrible. What I learned was that I don't learn well in large classes. I will graduate this upcoming May with at most a 2.5 GPA. So, I'm considering a post bac program. I don't know my science GPA but, I basically got all C's 🙁. I don't want my dreams of med school to go down the drain. So, I'm considering applying to these two schools. I would like some advice on why you chose the school and if you were successful at getting into medical school. I haven't taken the MCAT yet and I still need some pre reqs.

Any advice would help.

3 bachelor's degrees from UNCG here. Representing! :horns:

First off, just pick UNCG. The professors in the sciences are fantastic, and it's very easy to do research there if you're interested in doing that as part of your post bacc. One of my classmates had 8 first author publications, and she's only 21. I didn't do any research because I was too busy working full time, and I regret it.

UNCG has a lot of large classes in the sciences. Just about all the 300 level bios - cell, genetics, ecology, evolution - were all >100 students, as were both orgo 1 and orgo 2. The good news is once you start taking the 500 level grad electives, the class sizes shrink considerably. I had less than 20 people in the four grad levels I took for my bio bachelor's, including biochem.

UNCG is an absolute nightmare for physics. Ridiculously, unnecessarily difficult classes, no supplemental instruction programs because they can't find anyone willing to teach them. Many of my classmates did the consortium option and actually took physics at A&T because it's so much easier. That's one of the nice things about UNCG - most of the Greensboro schools are in the consortium where you can literally take a class at any of the schools and you get credit for it at the school where you're officially matriculating. Wish I'd done Physics 2 as a consortium class - it was my worst class in my bio degree, by a mile.

I didn't do post bacc, I just did a third bachelor's, so I can't answer many questions about the post bacc program itself. Other than that, if you decide to attend UNCG and have specific professor/class questions, just let me know. 🙂
