Out of these six programs - which one should I go to? And why? Are there any I should definitely not go to (why)?

For each one - can you apply to medical school after the first semester (do people generally do that)?

Also, which of them gives you and automatic interview with the medical school if you maintain a high enough GPA?

*Which school do you think i'll have the best chance of getting into a med school? (so far I've been accepted to BU and UPenn)
1. BU
2. UPenn - special sciences
3. Georgetown - IMS
4. Loyola
5. Drexel
6. American
(*price and location of the program don't matter)

I graduated from Northwestern University.
- MCAT score: 28
- Overall GPA: 3.3
- Science GPA: 2.8
- not very much research experience
- A LOT of clinical/hospital experience

Sorry there are so many questions...if you know have any information about any of them, I would love to hear. Thanks so much!

Hi Katie,

Phil_anthropist would probably be the best person to answer your questions, but I'll try.

So, have you already been accepted to all of these programs? Have you applied? It's pretty late now to apply for fall 2005.

For the best guarantee of getting into a medical school, I would go with Rosalind Franklin (which I know is not on your list). If you maintain at least a 3.0 and don't piss anybody off, then you're pretty much guaranteed to get in.

Loyola and BU are both two years programs I believe (I know BU is). Loyola does offer a guaranteed interview if you keep at least a 3.5, but that's in the second year (for the entering class of 2007) and that's only an interview.

I've heard mostly bad thing about Drexel such as they make you watch the lectures on TV and can't ask the professors questions.

The UPenn program is at night, so if you aren't worried about $$$, I would go with a daytime program.

I don't know anything about American's program.

That leaves Georgetown, which is where I'm going, so that's what I'll recommend 🙂. Although there is definitely no guarantee of acceptance, they tend to give people an interview if they have 3.5+ in the first 1/2 of their classes and so do other medical schools (SLU, NYMC, Drexel and some others who tend to take lots of SMP students). And Georgetown does definitely recommend applying to medical school this year.

But again, for the best guarantee, I'd go with Rosalind Franklin. Although I believe one of Drexel's programs has a guarantee, but I don't think it's the IMS.

Hope some of this helped.
