Which residency programs reimburse moving expenses?

Many of your community programs will offer moving expense reimbursement, though, the economy being what it is, you may see less and less of this. Generally the more competitive a program the more they know they are doing YOU the favor and the less they'll do.

It is also more common in FM programs in "bad" locations than in other programs for this reason. Some DO programs seem to do it as well since they're trying to lure people away from the ACGME match. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that there are no Derm, Rad Onc or ortho programs out there who do this.

But you'll be hard pressed to find a list of such places anywhere.

Agreed. I will be joining a "top tier" RadOnc program where residents are treated extremely well, a lot of perks, generous vacation, etc. and there is not any form of reimbursement for moving expenses. Like a previous poster stated, the more competitive a program, the less likely that you will be reimbursed for any costs incured while moving.

JPS in fort worth, tx offers 1500 relocation fund for every resident. including their ortho, EM, ob/gyn, etc. residents.

If you end up in a program that doesn't pay for moving expenses, talk to the local banks. Most of them are very used to dealing with moving residents coming to the city for their training and very much want your business and can give you loan offers that would be difficult to come by otherwise. I took out 10-15K from my local bank when I moved here for moving and various other expenses and only have to pay sub-prime interest on it throughout residency, then begin paying it back when I finish.

Residencies in various fields of Pediatrics (as well as Pediatric Fellowships) at Nationwide Children's Hospital/The Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio pay up to $3400 for relocation. A friend who ended up there said they actually organized her entire move.

Probably true. Mine covered moving expenses up until about 3 years ago, but stopped. I know that several other residency programs at the institution still cover it.

Was this less than the current 3.25% prime rate? Who is offering this? Thanks for the info.

Just and FYI since I got burned on this...

Matched to a community program with a 3k moving bonus which they took away on an account of "the poor economy," even though their quarterly statement shows they are still in the black with continual quarterly improvements in admissions and payer mix....

The match contract lists no stipulations on them having to honor any of their benefits to you after you match, since as far as I know the match "employment contract" only stipulates your required year of work.
