Hey guys. I got some great advice from this awesome forum last time I posted! Love it here.
Anyway, I have a pretty low cum GPA but my GPA at my current school (I transferred here) is not bad- 3.5. Also, I haven't taken my pre-req courses yet, so I'm planning on doing stellar in those.
My question- do any of you know which schools focus more on last 45 or pre-req course GPA's when it comes to admission?

Also.. I've been thinking about taking some of my pre-req courses at the local community college because.. well i'm poor. What are your thoughts on that?

Thanks for any advice!! 🙂

Pretty sure U of MN only looks at pre-reqs and last 45 credits. Also, I'd come up with a list of schools, find the pre-req course description at the CC, and contact the schools to see if they will count. I only took 1 CC course as a pre req (mostly because I work at a university and get a nice discount on classes here) but I just contacted the school and made sure it would count before I signed up for it.

I do know a few people have taken most (or all) of their pre-reqs at CC's so I think it's definitely doable - again depending on which schools you're planning to apply to. I think one of the biggest hurdles is making sure your local CC offers all the courses you'll need.

Good luck!

Before you do it, make sure you think long and hard about which vet schools you're going to want to apply to. Then check and make sure the CC courses will fulfill the requirements. Some people are going to tell you that you can't do your pre-reqs at a CC. They're wrong when they throw it out as a universal truth, but they are right in that you need to be careful to check whether those classes will be accepted down the road. So: Do your homework and plan ahead. (I did all my pre-reqs at a CC, but I knew I was applying at UMN, and UMN had an actual published list of courses at local CCs that met their requirements. So for me it was a no-brainer.)

And there's no reason you can't mix CC and university courses as needed. Your pre-reqs don't all have to come from the same place.

I changed my planned courses for the fall semester and was unsure if the new course I was taking at a CC would be accepted (since I don't live in the MN area, it wasn't actually on their list). I emailed them with the course description and a link to the course description online and got a quick response that it met the criteria. 🙂

Also, my prereq courses ended up being a mixture from 3 different universities and 2 CCs and nobody seemed to have a problem with it.
