Which school? Does it really matter?

Fellows,

I know there are always more prestigious schools that are more competitive, and less competitive safety schools. I wonder if it really matters which school I attend? I mean, career-wise. Are people from more prestigious schools more likely to find a job, but they are all professional schools and I assume they should all offer a fairly good foundation for careers.

My 2c

1. Avoid the new schools. I don't see how they are good for the profession at all.
2. Consider the public schools.
3. Choose cheaper over more expensive
4. Consider the surrounding city and university. It is 4 years of your life.

why do you say don't go to the new schools?
personally, I believe you should go to the school that you fit in with and really like since you will be there for 4 years. regardless of the school, you will be getting a comparable education and should be able to to the same thing that another graduate of optometry school can do. and money-wise, no matter what school you go to, you will still be in considerable debt, so you might as well go somewhere that you want as opposed to going to a cheaper school.

Why do you say avoid the new schools?

Try using the search function for "New optometry schools" and see what you come up with. I know it's come up quite a bit in the last year, at least. It has mostly to do with the quality of students going into those schools and how we have no real idea so far of the quality of the program of those schools. But read up and see what you think.
