Which School Is Your FIRST Choice?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah, i could see the naming your first choice school thing getting pretty sticky.

Also, its too easy to get your heart set on a school if you do have a first choice. I don't have a first choice currently. I plan to wait until after interviews (fingers crossed) to start thinking about that once I know where my options are and have more information to base it on.

Your first choice also changes after interviews, or so I found.

I agree. I'm waiting on interviews (hoping I receive more than one) and my experience from the interview and also when I learn more about the faculty and students before I rank them.

As pathetic as it may sound (which it actually isn't as many on this board would say), my first choice is whichever schools accepts me and is the best match (if I get accepted at multiple schools).

Yay! That is the perfect way to approach it. I managed not to set my heart on anything until I had offers in hand. Don't really know how I managed that other than to remind myself that I didn't want my heart broken.

This. All of the programs I'm applying to are excellent programs with excellent faculty who (I believe) match my research interests. I would be lucky to go to any of them.

True that. If you are applying to programs you wouldn't be happy at or don't match well with what you want to do you are doing something wrong.

This is so true, everyone has an idea of what they would like until they actually get there. You cannot underestimate the value of the actual interview. I know most are just happy to get an interview, but always remember that this is your choice too; it will be just as useful in your decision making (or should be) as the actual program itself.

Vanderbilt in the U.S. and any one of the canadian schools I applied to.
