As goro often helpfully mentions, tulane, nycm, and drexel all are good options for applicants who have turned their academic careers around.

I keep hearing these schools mentioned over and over but what are some others?

I feel like these type of schools are the only ones that'll give me a shot.

Im 7 years post grad with killer ec's, 3.9 post bacc (includes all pre reqs except bio 1) and an upward trend that jumped .5 each year during undergrad. Nonetheless my MD cgpa is still 3.0 and science is a 3.4.

Any good ideas as to where I should apply?

University of Rochester

extremely interested in this as well. hopefully we get some good replies! would love to hear about more of these schools.

Michigan State College of Human Medicine
Virginia Commonwealth (says so in their FAQ)

What is your mcat and home state?

I'm from California and my AAMC 3 was a 29. I'm taking the MCAT June 21st..hoping I can raise it about 3 points by then.

Eh I was in your position. I might strike BU off that list. They get a huge amount of applications and don't need to look at come-back cases. EVMS is good for the list along with VCU, Drexel, and Temple maybe.

Reinvention for MD schools also needs a really good MCAT (>33), based upon all the info I've received from successful applicants. For DO schools, anything >25 will be fine, but the higher, the better.

Your state residence won't do you any favors, and even if you do score 3 points higher on the mcat, it's not enough to stand out by much. Sorry to sound like a jerky, but you need something in your file above and beyond the average premedical student. Maybe you have done that, already? Maybe not.

I'm from California, too, have a 30, and somewhat of a similar story. My app list is long and distinguished is all I'm saying.

Look into California osteopathic medical schools, too. Touro and western are as good as a lot of md schools, IMO.

I've noticed in the MSAR that some colleges state they are changing their admissions to competency-based. Yeshiva is one.

You are 7 years out. That is a lot. Why did you not apply for admissions directly after completing the post bacc? Also, have you been working in a health care related field during the times you were not attending school? Reinvention is, and will always be an exception to the rule. It is really something that is reviewed on a case by case basis. -Admissions to Medicine

My post-bacc will be complete this semester, so I'm applying now. I started a business about 4 years ago, which has now grown to become a successful and semi-mainstream internet start up. Our niche is ehealth. And no, we don't sell supplements as someone else once asked. I wasn't willing to fully pursue medicine until I was sure this business was self-sufficient...or, until I started getting acquisition offers. Take your pick. 🙂

It just emphasizes that they look at the candidates holistically.

Which of course is a word that doesn't need a real definition... as long as it looks good on a PowerPoint. It's a buzzword unless you pair with with concrete application.

Hey fellow Cali resident. From personal experience I would include U.C. Davis and University of Pittsburgh.
