which schools have "mini-boards" as pratice exams?

i've heard some schools has mini-boards which are basically usmle type of exams for their basic science classes. for those like me who don't go to those schools, is there anyway i can get a copy of them? (i.e. buy my own copy through amcas?)

They are called the NBME Basic Science Subject Examinations. We usually just refer to them as the "NBME finals" or "shelf exams." At my school (and most schools as far as I know) they are used as a comprehensive final exam that usually constitutes a fair amount of your final grade.

No, there is no place where you can get a copy of them because they are proprietary information.

I've heard UC Irvine and George Washington have shelf exams...I've also heard of some Texas schools having it as well..

UCSD does not and will not take shelf exams..

We have shelf exams at the end of almost every course. You can't get copies -- they are very strict about not letting that information out. The best way to study is with a board review book like BRS. Of course, reading your textbook and paying attention in class doesn't hurt either!
