I know there are threads on this, I can't find them though. Anyone willing to link me to them?

I have great stats and am trying to work on my school list:

UPenn
Columbia
Vanderbilt
Johns Hopkins
UChicago
Harvard
yale
Baylor
State School (will prob get in, according to high up admissions guy)
UMichigan
Standford
UPitt
Duke

This may be a ******edly ambitious list, which is why I need more input.

I don't have any advice on your particular school list except maybe to add a couple of more safeties.

Other than that, please keep in mind that every school you interview at you will get a different impression than maybe someone who was there the same day as you. Post interview, anything you feel about the school is personal fit and has a little bit to do as well with the attitude you go in with. There is a somewhat recent thread around there that addresses the issue of feelings post interview and stuff if you're interested. good luck!

This is true, but without some more info from you (location, desires, money, etc) I can't give you suggestions.

I can give you info as far as Vandy and Baylor are concerned - both are excellent schools, but have some flaws to their interview day. Vandy has too much down time (which is awkward if most of your fellow interviewees are douches) and Baylor is kind of a clusterfrick with >50 people there. You can't go wrong with either one, though.

Other thoughts for your list:

If you have a geographical preference you might want to add other "lower ranked" schools to the list that are in that region.

MCAT matters a lot. If you have a great MCAT score, you should be good for your state school.

BUT...it can't hurt to add a few more schools where your stats really stand out. Even with great stats, a bad interview can ruin your chances. A bad interview could happen because of bad luck in who you interview with or because you put your foot in your mouth, like "******edly ambitious." A phrase like that would most likely (hopefully) ensure a rejection.

Best of luck,
Conrad

I have to say, that was my first thought as well in reading the original post...that if the OP comes off in an interview the same way that s/he did in this post, the OP's chances of getting in won't be nearly as high as s/he thinks they are.

Med schools are looking for students with great stats who also have humility and maturity...and every year there are students who look amazing on paper and bomb their interviews (usually due to arrogance and immaturity) and get rejected.

I don't mean this as a personal attack, just as constructive criticism. (And yes, add more "safety" schools to your list). 🙂
