i have been under review for a few months now for most of the schools that i have applied to (nyu, uop, usc, bu, tufts, mercy, temple)

so far i got 2 interviews

the other schools have been under review for forever

which of these schools would be ok to call to show my interest in the school?

i'm hesitant because it seems like schools don't like to be bothered by status inquiries.

i tried calling tufts before but a voice msg came up, telling students to not inquire about status and just check AADSAS

Yea, I am not sure what calling would accomplish. If you are missing materials, deadlines have passed, so you are out of luck. If all materials are in and you haven't heard back, they have put your application on hold. Calling to show your interest will not do much, if they are not interested in you. I'm not trying to be offensive, it's just the reality of the situation. I am also on hold at several schools. At this point, sit and wait.

There's a fine line between pestering and persistence. I would say def. don't call the schools that say "don't call us, check aadsas", but lots of schools I've applied to like talking to students. An email or a quick phone call saying "just wanna check the status of my application", "where are you guys at in the admissions process", or, not quite yet, but maybe in Feb or March if you're still there, start asking about how to improve your applications. I definitely think my contact with schools throughout my various cycles gave me an (eventual) advantage. But yes, it needs to be done well, not overdone, and done with low expectations on your end.

Good Luck!

Shoot...just called PITT today to ask the standard questions, and she said, "can you be here Feb 8th?" So, I think calling and being profesional CAN work in some cases...

TBH, you should at least email and ask about a status update. If they have time they'll answer it and it might not be as annoying as a phone call.

I asked about my status (which shows i am still interested) via email and I literally received an interview 30 mins later and this was yesterday.

Best wishes.

It is hard to imagine that your phone call and "being professional" had anything to do with what followed, since it is unlikely the "she" in question has/had the authority to decide, on the spot no less, on who should get an interview.

I am not debating your post, but my comment was merely a statement of fact about what happened.

The second sentence appears to go beyond a "statement of fact about what happened".

I believe it is worth calling, I had an experience similar to that of subdoc. OP sent you a PM.

thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and advice

good luck!
